And as always I love to work on the Wing in the winter. I just found out I got a bad cylinder. Leaking rings. Not firing with a new plug. I know I got three more cyl. but I don't think I can ride it that way.I need to find someone that has a compression gauge I can use to check my Goldwing. It has the 12mm spark plug holes. I got one from my boss but it didn't have the right threads to screw into the spark plug hole. I took it back to him and told him about it. He said, Well maybe back in the 60's when I bought it there wasn't any that size. I said, No Shit! Still need one to use for a day. Anyone have one? I'll be pulling the engine out to fix this one. Don't think I'll be riding this year because of this and because my wife got accepted into the masters program in Colorado Springs so I got to save money for the move. If I get lucky and win the lottery (oh, I guess I got to play to win) I'll let you all know and we will ride together again. Just remember this old hippy and his old wing. |

| Training Wheels Joined: Jul 2005 From: Colorado Springs, CO I Ride: 1984 GL1200 Aspencade | Bought a compression tester. Started bike to let it warm up and of course #4 was missing. Ten seconds later #4 starts firing. I let it warm up to four bars (operating temp). Turned it off. Did a compression test. Right side: #1@130lbs, #3@110lbs, Left side: #2@150lbs, #4@150lbs. Now it seems that the left side is in great shape and the right side is showing wear from the numbers I got. Put the plugs back in and started it. It ran great. I had the front forks off so I made a couple spacers and put them in the forks because of the weak springs in them and installed the forks back on the bike. Started it again and it ran great. Two hours later I finished putting all the rest of the parts back on and started again. Took it down the road a mile and back and it works fine. What the hell is going on with my bike? Is it haunted or something? Does it like to see me worry about it or something? I can't handle the extra stress right now! I'm going to wait and see what happens and try not to mess with it again when its below freezing outside. I tried to rent a compression tester but no luck so I bought one that will screw into anything. It's got lots of fittings and was only fourty bucks. Hope to see you all soon if the weather looks good. I don't mind riding as long as its above 40 degrees. |
