Almost went down. CROSSWALKS SLICK!!
Hey guys, so just pulling out of the parking lot I park in there is a cross walk. I've always known it was slick. They use this stupid paint raised surface stuff.

Anyways, cold tires plus a little water, I was going slow, normal acceleration up to the 20mph speed limit. Rear wheel went out right and went out hard, luckily my instincts were okay and a swift kick to the ground on the left righted me but put it into a tank slapper. I was able to ride it out, wasn't very fast but still hurt. Banged my knee pretty good on my bike's slider.

Anyways, watch out for the crosswalks and other painted surfaces!! They are almost ice slick without any ice...

And yes, I am still riding every day I can. 40 degrees and rain? No problem!

Yep - have to watch out for them. Glad you didn't lose it.

I haven't driven to work since April if I recall correctly. I even braved the June snowstorm on two wheels.

Yeah, Wade, but if you never show up for bike night, how can we revere you for your dedication?

That sucks, glad you're OK. I honestly do not understand why they don't use some kind of engineered paint to not be slick in the rain. Same with the steel plates for construction/manhole covers/etc, they should have the surface cut up with tiny sharp points for traction or something.

I rode my bike everywhere today in the rain and thankfully didn't have a problem.

Bikes went nite-nite for the winter about a week ago, save the ones being worked on...and the Star which is just waiting for a nice brisk sunny winter ride...

I'm actually very comfortable in full tuck, the ergonomics work. Plus it kept my neck warm :D

winter riding
I really like to ride as much as I can. However, I have to goto work early in the morning (~ 7:30 am) and its cold. I need to ride 1.5 miles and do not like to put layers for this short ride.
Do you know any winter clothing which I can use? I need something easy to put on / out.

I also have problem with cold engine. It takes long time the engine to worm it up. If I am in hurry I am in trouble because of cold engine. (I ride yamaha vstar 650). Should I forget about riding until summer?

Any advice approciated. I realy thank warning about paints!!

go down to Mac's cycle, tell Jim Vollbrect (late apex) you want a tourmaster jacket and pants, with a liner. They are plenty warm for a mile and a half, even longer, until it gets REALLY cold. Plus, they nicely pull over boots and clothes, and they are pretty water resistant if you seal them up good.
