The second stage, first serious stage, was today. Yesterday was a short, 60km stage, but not without trouble. A local racer crashed a few KMs from the finish and had cardiac arrest and died on the way to the hospital. Two spectators also died in a plane crash. Americans did well, Quinn Cody 4th and Jonah Street 10th on the first day. Robby Gordon was 5th in his 2WD Hummer, but would have won if not for having to tow his team mate in to the finish. Nassir Al Attiyah is Gordon's team mate and the winner overall from last year.

Today was trouble for many. A French rider hit a cow going 100mph +, killed the cow, but he is in the hospital. Cody had a tire blow on the way to the start and then had fuel pump issues loosing 20 minutes and dropping him to 20th. Jonah had bigger trouble and is likely out of the rally. His engine started dying when hot, which was often when it is 120 degrees out!? He was towed out and may be done. Nassir won the car stage and Robby got 3rd, so they sit 6th and 2nd overall. Stephane Peterhansel, 6 time winner on a bike, 3 times in a car, leads the cars in a Mini Countryman.

Another ugly day. Jonah is out from yesterday, stator and possibly fuel issues. Cody went out today, was running top 5, then highside/cartwheel!?! Broken collarbone and concussion, said he woke up next to a helicopter not knowing what happened. Check highlights tonight, as they got it on tape.

Good day for Team Gordon, Robby 5th and Nasser 6th, to put them 2nd and 6th overall in the 2WD Hummers.

Also, Jonah Street anounced his retirement from rally racing in addition to this year's Dakar. We will miss you, Jonah, you made all of us in WA and the whole USA very proud!

That crashed looked painful. I hope he is alright. Was that blood all over his face?

I live the Dakar! Long distance stage rally in remote parts of the world with no GPS. That's kick @$$.

Hope all who are injured have a speedy recovery.

Yes, blood, he needed 10 stitches in his face. He looked so rough this AM that they wouldn't let him on the plane to go home, he had to get a note from the doctor!?
