Spies leaves Yamaha GP team - Page 2

Duc is only giving Rossi and Hayden minor updates this week.

Cal didn't get the contract from Duc.... at least not yet, so thus far it was all talk.

Rossi supposedly had good talks with the Audi bosses, and may stay with Ducati... but a day later there was a rumor that Monster would sponsor him personally, but Monster did not want to do anything with Ducati. Since Yamaha still doesn't have a title sponsor, that could go a long way to bringing Rossi back to Yamaha.

Probably the wildest silly season I've ever followed. Nothing seems to be too far-fetched to be possible right now.

I really think Rossi will end his career on a Yami, but not this year.

Ah, many sites are saying they will use it. Actually thought I read that from the motogp site. Hopefully they have it for Brno.

I am actually looking forward to Elias on the sat Duc this week. Although he has no experience on it, I always thought he could ride the Duc well. He hangs off a lot and stands it up first a lot like Stoner and Pedro.

Elias is the most successful satellite duc rider so far...

I was referencing the GP12, if he has raced it then I stand corrected.

Back to Spies, I don't see him staying in this series.

Ofcourse he is going to Suzuki MotoGP. Why would he go backwards to WSB or AMA??? He is competitive and young, no brainer. MotoGP kept Hopkins around forever and he never placed worth a damn

Dovi has earned it. Proven winner, podium finisher, is ahead of CC in points.

OTOH, Crutchlow has:
zero wins
zero podiums
trails his teammate in points
whines almost as bad as Moaner

Dovi has stated that he'd consider an SBK ride as well... It would be awesome if Spies ended up there, maybe along with Hayden. Leave the 'premier' class to the midget jockeys and their electronics. The real racing is in SBK, where the men are.

Spies has qualified well in a couple races so far but he just can't seem to get it together during the race, and with both the satellite yamaha riders consistently finishing better than him then this is not a shocker. I hope he can find a team that be can win with.

I think Spies is the perfect indictment of the "it's all about the electronics" attitude. Lorenzo wins on that very same bike. Spies can't hang for more than ten laps. Crutchlow and Dovizioso both perform better on their M1s than Spies during a race.

It may require a premium electronics package to win a GP, but the rider can sure crap things up if they aren't tremendously skilled as well. It's the same with F1: the car is only half the equation. Alonso or Vettel couldn't make a Marussia or HRT crapbox competitive no matter how hard they tried, but neither could Narain Karthikeyan bring a Ferrari or Red Bull to victory.

Not to say that SBK and AMA Pro aren't awesome in their own respects. There's a reason why there are multiple racing leagues with varying rules and regulations. MotoGP shows us where the current bleeding edge is at.

Another source reports that the control that Spies and his crew had over the setup of their bike was limited, with Yamaha asking the Texan to help test parts for Lorenzo's title chase. Whether these reports are true or not, Spies' real reasons for leaving will only come out once the Texan has left the team, and once his contract expires at the end of 2012.

Wsbk has a lot of electronics too, even using gps systems to alter the system for particular parts of the track. AMA has capped it next year to a 20k dollar system, not nearly as intrusive as the other two series.

Spies just seemed to lose his drive in motogp, last race he was being beat by RDP on a CRT for all but the last lap. I would not be surprised if he walks away, hopefully he takes Hayden and Edwards with him back to wsbk if he leaves.

I'm no big Spies fan (more a fan of American riders in general), but if you followed anything, you'd know Spies has had a huge string of bad luck that all but explains his lack of results this season.

It's widely believed that being Lorenzo's teammate is no easy deal, and there have been more than a few reports of his teammates getting shafted by it.
