Looks like Hayden is resigning with Duc, a bit of a surprise. Rossi hasn't commited to them yet, so looks like there is a possibility of him rejoining Yam.

I'm not really surprised about Hayden, since they never did give Cal a contract.
It'd be stupid of them to dump Hayden, since they just had their biggest sales year in N.America.

Not really. The US is Ducati's biggest market, they need an American. Plus he's a super likable guy, sells a ton of merchandise, and gets the ladies attention. Hayden is a win for Ducati.

Agree, good point. I think if they had gotten Cal, it would have been more indicative of Rossi staying. Purely speculative, but this gives me more reason to think Rossi may be on the M1 next year in place of Spies.

Man, I hope so. Rossi must know that he's not getting any younger... If he wants to be competitive again, here's his chance.

Who cares about spies?

Rossi is moving to HD for their new motogp effort. Here he is testing their latest prototype:

So, broken swingarm in the Laguna race.... really?! I gotta wonder if this was another "test part".

He just can't catch a break. How in the hell does a swingarm break? Pictures would be interesting

Hard to say, but it looked like it could have started with a shock failure. Looked like he bottomed hard and perhaps that started the chain of events that caused it to give way. Weird looking crash no doubt, Yamaha will probably come out with a press release with info.

That being said, anyone watching AMA right now? Hayes and the other front runners are putting lap times together similar to the motogp CRT bikes, this without the trick tires, brakes, and prototype frames.

I Ride: fast, except on the road.
Looked like linkage or maybe the bracket on the swingarm for the shock linkage? If you're going to break the rear suspension, that would be the place! Probably the hardest compression of any track. I wore a huge hole in my fairing right there, which never touched anywhere else.

Me too. It seems that unless you're golden-boy Lorenzo, Yamaha isn't really interested in having you do well. I don't have the citation for it at the moment, but it's been reported that Spies has been limited as to how he could have the bike set up, to gather data for Lorenzo's championship effort...

In Spies' time at the factory Yamaha team, he's had 3 failures of the launch control, a wrench left on the bike on the starting grid, a broken sub-frame, a rear tire that gave out after the fourth lap, a leaky face shield in a very wet race, (When was the last time this happened in any motorcycle race?) a rear tire that tossed chunks into the audience, and swingarm failure that could have killed him.

No one is that unlucky. Something smells like a rat in the Yamaha garage.

Why else would a top-level racer resign from a factory ride at one of two companies that is capable of making a bike that can win a MotoGP race? Having a 'bad year' doesn't make you want to go backwards in career development...

That's my thought, the linkage or a mount. But, when does this happen, or how often? Really strange, to say the least, imo.

Here's a pic of where the rear of the bike is completely collapsed:

spies is not stupid, the team lost confidence in him and let him KNOW it half way thru 2012 season , so he went proactive and joined a team that he deserves to be on, nicky deserves to be on a very similar peice of junk, for he as well could not become a consistent winner on the best machine in the paddock!
