WOOT! I should just buy my tickets today and quit waiting until the last second.

This would be my 4th. Last year's was SOO much larger than the first year they did it, and cooler too! Back in those days the local VFR club comprised most of the volunteers.

I'll drink beer with ya!

On another note, I'm having difficulty finding anyone from the Eugene area that's going... are you coming up this direction? I think it would kinda suck going by myself for my first time ever at this event, but I'll do what I have to do!

I'm heading down Wednesday, I just got a call from the Econlodge (now the Roadway Inn) to confirm the four day reservation that I made last february. I'm a whimp! Too soft for camping anymore.

I just returned Saturday from an 800 mile trip to Castlegar, BC for a little STN get together, but the bike's washed and ready to head out again.

I'll keep an eye out for any PNWR folks. I'm usually wearing a hat, helmet, or some other gear with the STN logo.

Don't forget the sunscreen!

Hey, my first year I stayed at the ECONO Lodge!
We will be in the RV section. Look for a Grey/Silver Chevy and white camper with a white 14' enclosed trailer. Stop by!

ACK! I might need to buy a new tent then.. the one I have has NO ventilation (used it mainly for camping during the fall). Crap.. that's going to suck to use the tent I have right now. And I've run out of time to get one (have a post-work meeting tomorrow). Oh well.. 106!?!? Nutz.... I'm sorta roaster here at 85... :0

Plan ahead
and get a room in the cheap econo lodge.

Works great if it's raining or 100+ degrees outside.

I can't leave till Thursday, but if there is someone leaving from the PDX area on Wednesday, and feels like picking up a tent. I have an extra (2-man) tent you can borrow. It has enough screens to open up and get a breeze through.

Dave,

Let me know if you want me to pick a tent up for you and bring it down with me. I live next to a Sportsman Warehouse...just tell me how much you want to spend and pay me back when you get into Stevenson.

I checked in at the motel 2:45pm. Went over to the fairgrounds to sign in, then stopped at the market for cold beverages.

Hottest temp I saw on the instrument display was 111 F south of Kelso. Talked to some folks that came down east of Rainier & St Helens with temps in the 80's.

I'll head back to the fairgrounds about 5:30 to see if anyone wants to go over to Walking Man Brewing for a bite to eat.

Look for the STN logo.

edit:

It was a pleasure meeting james1300 and Steve this evening.

This would have been a nice place to stay,

But I chose this,

Plenty of parking, and cool bikes,

Sportbike/Sport-Touring/DualSport Northwest 101,

I'm riding this tomorrow!

Another great morning on day two!

Funny that, I just had breakfast with Reg Pridemore. Well we were both in the motel's complimentary breakfast area and exchanged a few pleasantries.

Well I'm off to the fairgrounds to buy a cooling vest, ride a KTM, and slip a ride in there somewhere.

edit yet again: It's early evening. Any other rally attendees online?

Hangin with Reg, three time AMA champ, notable for winning first on a BMW R90S, and then Kawa KZ1000's.

Did a few laps on the Rowena Curves today.

Don, of allmototire.com, based in Graham Wa, and at the rally selling and doing tires, saved my bacon. I was heading out of the fairgrounds this afternoon, when someone chased me down to tell me I had a flat rear tire (duh). I thought my bike felt like a pig, because I had just gotten off a Super Duke demo ride! So after making my way across the fairgrounds on a half aired down rear tire, Don ended up patching Two small punctures in the rear tire that I was just trying to get through this trip with, because I had a fresh set waiting at home. Due to unforeseen circumstances (including not finding the second hole until after patching the first), this guy worked almost two hours patching two holes with inside patches in 105 degree temps, and refused to take more than $20! I saw some good tire prices in his trailer, and he claims he mounts & balances tires for $15, free if he sells you the tire. He deserves some business in my book.

Sorry for the shameless plug

There are three Kawasaki Versys here that I know of. Two of us did 320 miles today in the excessive heat. Went to Mount St. Helen's, then down to Trout Lake for a delicious late lunch and chatted it up with the waitress from Sri Lanka, then down the Klikitat (sp?) to The Dalles, then the Rowena curves to Hood River, and back. Took most of the day, have pics, but don't have the energy this late tonight to get them uploaded...

Couple of the good shots from my trip in hatties, it was 105 at MarryHill, speaking of Marryhill:

Then we came back for me to droooole on my future bike: only 3 of these in the USA!!!!

Even let me sit on it!!!

The RC8 is alright, but i was seriously unimpressed with the KTM's i demo'd...

I decided not to include all the empty "beverage" containers of our camp area
and we had some noisy visitors a few times:

All in all it was an AWESOME TRIP!! way way too hot but very worth the heat exaustion, hopefully it will be a little cooler next year but i'd take this all over again over a thunder storm!! great meeting some new riders too, keep up the great work gentlemen!

yup yup. Sorry if the car freaked anyone out. It was way too hot to hike up the road. It also provided transport for fluids and gave shade. It was damn hot.

Thanks!
