Ride the middle of the world
"be prepared for anything" I just returned from a 10 day 1200 plus mile tour of Ecuador. For an adventure of this magnitude preparation is key. I wore all season riding gear, 100% water proof with CE approved armor, lots of vents for the jungle heat and zip out liner for the high elevations. Water proof boots, a comfortable helmet with faceshield to keep the giant bugs out of your teeth. We rode 650cc dual sport bikes with bash plates and crash bars. At one of our first river crossings we slowed to pick a safe line across the treacherous water, when out of the jungle appeared Juan on a moped wearing shorts and sandles with his grandma on the back holding a chicken. He blew past us and through the river without slowing to say hello. " Be prepared for anything.

That is awesome

I also like how grammy isn't wearing a helmet. That's badass!

The adventure begins
We flew into Quito, the capitol of Ecuador. A busy city high in the Andes mountains, about 8000ft. It was raining when we arrived, after all is is the rainy season here.
Would not be an adventure without the mudslides, washed out roads and humidity.
The traffic in the city is just this side of, I ain' t going to live to tell lies on my ride report.
As near as i can tell there are two rules to riding down here, be very aggressive and survive, I did both. A map of the ride. Standing in the middle of the world.

When did you do this? (I don't want to ride in the rainey season)!
Where or who do I contact? (to gain more knowledge on rental and travel rates)?
How much? (should I expect to spend on an adventure like this)?
How much time did your adventure take you?
More Pic's Please!

At one point, the "guide" had to bail out in order to take care of some business and left Paul in charge of leading the group using a GPS unit. (he had a spot tracker so I was following along)
Suffice to say that brother Paul don't know his way around Ecuador very well!
I can't wait to see him post more about this most excellent adventure!

Enough spoilers, make with the updates EWOG!

Eat more cuy. (google it)

In the middle of the world
We were met at the airport in Quito by our guides (and soon to become friends) Court and Sylvan from Freedom Bike Rentals.

Court is from the U.S. and speaks at least three languages. Sylvan is from France I couldn't understand a word he said.

After taking us to our hostel where we would be staying for the next two nights, it was off to Ho's for filet mignon and beer. I love Ho's.

We didn't stay late. Tomorrow we check out the city.

Here is another video you might like. It gives you a good idea of what it was like to ride in Ecuador. I will post up more photos of my trip later.
