Thumbs up Leavenworth Area Ride PLUS Lizi 4/30/09
It all started with my daily morning chore of cleaning the cat box....

"Screw you, cats! I'm outta here!"

After a quick shower and primping session, I donned the proper ATGATT and dashed out to the garage. Which bike? The Feejer or ZXer? Easy choice... the tyres on the feejer are getting a bit bald. So I rolled out the ZXer and performed a pre-flight check. Oil, air and chrome polish. It's a go!

Now, where to? How long? I quickly checked my Destination Highway book for some ideas. It appeared there was a few twisties that I had left to explore off Highway 2 and in the Leavenworth area. I could also visit Lizi & Jay in Peshastin. Cool beans!

Just outside of Skykomish, the temp was rapidly declining so I turned on the heated vest. By the time I reached Steven's Pass, I had it on HIGH.

Before and after crossing the pass, I always stop at the rest stop at Nason Creek for a cup of coffee and/or bladder function. Always nice folks with cookies and stuff for the weary traveler.

At Coles Corner, I turned left onto 207. I visited the north side of Lake Wenatchee, then galloped down Chiwawa Loop Road (most excellent twisties!) into Beaver Valley and the quaint little village of Plain. Yeeeee Hawwwww!

At the Just Plain Store (a great place to stop for gas, food, bladder control, contemplation, yoga, etc.), you'll find friendly people and an award winning restroom full of bathroom farkles and frufru. Oh, and this was kinda cool, too.

Then I rode, laughed and giggled up and over the fantastically twisty pass just outside Plain and down onto the Chumstick Highway. The ZXer was actually purring! No chicken strips here!

No time to let the ole heart calm down... nearing Leavenworth, I took a quick left onto North Road. Another couple of miles of fantastic twisties through blooming orchards carried me into Peshastin and to Timberline Motorsports and motel. Visit their website. Lizi and Jay gave me a beverage and the VIP tour of their property. Here's a pic that I took last year (I forgot to take pics while I was there this time).

Then I bid farewell and headed to Leavenworth. Being early spring and mid-week, there wasn't much happening. It had snowed about 3" the week before. I just sat on a bench, listened to the music and watched the few people who were out and about. Note to self: I gotta get some Lederhosen riding gear.

I looked at my map again and noticed Icicle Road. It's a deadend but what the heck. It was a gorgeous day in the neighborhood. Even the forest rats were out.

Here's some pics of stuff along Icicle Road. The road was a little rough in places but it has some nice sweeping turns. There's 4 campgrounds as well as a bunch of hiking trails along Icicle Creek.

Here's a tree between a rock and a hard place.... well, sorta.

This lil' guy is posing. I don't see many chipmonks anymore.

I climbed up on a huge rock mound beside the road to get this shot. I'm about 50 feet up.

Icicle Creek... seemed to be a bit murky from the runoff. Lots of rapids.

Some of the craggy hills surrounding the area. Lots of burned trees from past forest fires.

Time was getting short so I hightailed back towards home. Once again, the heated vest was turned on as the altitude climbed.

Last note: I had a little extra time so I explored a section of the Old Cascade Highway. Pretty cool. Lots of older homes (maybe railroaders and/or loggers) and many a pasture with horses. I'm going back soon to explore more of the old road but I'll do it on the feejer.

Super day. Sometimes it's nice to just take off with no plan (to start off anyway) and take in the wonders of our world.

I would say in the mid - high 60's, maybe low 70's. Very comfortable. When I sat on the bench, I removed my coat.

The riding was spectacular. I don't really like Hwy. 2 much but the off roads are fantastic.
