| Endorsed Joined: Feb 2009 From: Seattle, WA I Ride: 2006 Suzuki V Strom 1000 | Western States Tour 2009 My employment contract ended so I join the ranks of job seekers. Any jobs out there? No? Good chance for a ride, huh? Three weeks on the road should about do it. My goals are to get outta town, see some new sights, see some old sights. Meet old friends and new ones. My general agenda is to Oregon first, then do the California Coast, Death Valley, Southern Utah, the Grand Canyon, Colorado, Yellowstone, and Glacier. I’ll be carrying my laptop so I can keep my eye out and apply for jobs while I am on the road. I will also be doing a real time ride report. I’ve thought a lot about the meaning of the word ‘adventure’ lately. In the traditional tale, the hero leaves home usually in the company of friends. He encounters unexpected difficulties, and gets unexpected help. The culmination of the adventure is a meeting with a large, powerful evil force that is defeated before the hero comes home changed by his travel. The bike is pretty heavy, I’m hoping that the evil force doesn’t toss the bike because I doubt I could pick it up! I’m not a hero and I don’t really want to overcome an evil force. I would like to see old and new sights and meet old and new friends. So in a sense this may not really be an adventure but more of a tour. Maybe I will at least come home changed by my travels. The bike is ready, tomorrow I start… wish me luck! ![]() |
