Post Possible new forum?
Ok, so it is a given that we all love to ride. It is also a given that almost everyone here loves to talk about the rides they have been on. As I look around, it seems we all LOVE pictures (including Beans!).

So, what I am getting at is, I think we need to have a forum added to PNW that is strictly for ride reports and ride report pics.
Tell us where you went and what you saw along the way and then top it all off by showing us pics. I know I absolutley love seeing places through the eyes of other riders. Great way to live vicariously until we can get out and ride ourselves on days off or upcoming vacation time.

So what do you guys think? If there are enough of us that want this, do you think Beans would help us out?

That is a Great Idea!
With riding season coming up it would be a CooL way to show everyone whats going on. And have it's own tread catagory or section.
Let's Do It!

Actually it would be specifically designed for ride reports for the whole PNW, rather than just the regional forums.

Oh well, it was just a thought. Lets move on.

I love the places I ride, as some of them are VERY secluded and kinda off the radar screen of the LEO population. Ride report and photos of rides, cool. Ride reports describing in detail the direction, location, and loop information... hm. Maybe.

I'm not for or against the idea...but that is why we have the regional forums. If you find a great place to ride, then you post up about it with pics in the appropiate regional section. That was the intention with the forum. Seperate stuff by regions and the stuff that is applicable to everything, goes in the pictures section.

I'm with you on this one fighter. I'm still pissed about Cycle World telling the entire country about my lost coast loop in northern cal. In '76 it was just me, a few bicyclists and one or two sheep. Now it gets mentioned by some mag at least once a year.
At least I've still got the Pine City loop.....

It's actually a good idea. The idea being a centralized place for just ride reports/pictures. I doubt I would browse the regional forums (and then search through all the random posts) to find a report on a ride -- I wouldn't even know what to look for unless it was something I've already done.

But if there was a forum that was kept on-topic (maybe KneeDragGirl could moderate that one forum) then I could see different places. For instance, I've never riden over in the Spokane or Tri-Cities areas but I hear there are some good roads. Well, if I knew about them I might plan a route instead of taking a boring one.

But the idea of confidentiality is important. For instance, Dom rarely lets anyone know where his roads are -- which is fine. Keeps the traffic down. So the specifics of where it is doesn't need to be added if the poster doesn't want to. But it could be if they do.

By the way, Pashnit.com is awesome and is way more comprehensive than what could be done with a forum. Pashnit has individual pages for each ride, with maps, images, etc. as part of the pages. A bit more comprehensive than what's being discussed here.

But I think it should be done for this area -- maybe a satelite site of some sort could be created after enough reviews were done here...

Thank you, for your input. I am not one to speak up for myself when an idea of mine gets sord off turned down. Your post is exactly what I was trying to get across. I hate stepping on people's toes, so if I get any negative reaction at all, I kind of clam up. It is the politeness in me.
I was just thinking it would be easier to navigate if it were one click away.

Sure, not to mention these types of things would get washed away in any general areas of the site within a few days -- their value being lost.

I have a couple reviews I could do right now but I don't know how awesome the pictures would/will be. I often forget to take pictures while on the ride, only to take a bunch once I arrive to where I was going.

And you know what? I can appreciate your politeness. The world could use more people with manners, truthfully. However, you are just as important as those responding to your idea (factually moreso as it was your idea). You can of course abandon any idea, but your honor is more important than most consider.

My suggestion is for you to keep your integrity and honor in tact by holding to your belief(s) while communicating as politely as you see fit. And if at some point you feel it's best to do otherwise, then do so.

Each sub area goes back 5 days- 2 weeks just on the 1st page. I dont see how things are going to get lost unless its a ride coming up that was added weeks in advanced with nobody posting up. And those should be placed in the area the ride is or under announcements & Events. I dont care to go through posts of who rode through Eugene or Boise or even Spokane when i live and ride in Western washington. Whats next, a specific sub forum for dirtbike rides, then snow mobile rides, then fiddy riders?
Thank you n stuff, have a good night, bless you all n stuff

Perfect point. The ride reports and pics would get pushed out by all the other threads if it were to stay in regional forums.

I am overly polite due to the fear of hurting people's feelings. I spent most of my life as the recipient of unkind behavior. I cant bear to put anyone else through that, so I am mindful about what kinds of things I say to people. I do not like judging peoples thoughts and opinions, so therefore I dont like to voice my own. Unless it is in fun and play. When it comes to reality, I keep a tight lid.

Thanks for your nice response. It means a lot.

Ok, I totally hijacked my own thread, but I suppose they go hand in hand in a weird kind of way.

Well, here's what I've observed from being on larger forums (and although this is a regional forum it seems to be growing by leaps and bounds), posts will be pushed off the first page within a matter of hours or a day on a busy forum. In a few days if it's moderately busy.

Now, we're not talking about ride announcements, right? Those (and their resultant "good times" stories) will be posted in the appropriate regional forum. I mean there will be ride announcements probably every day during the summer to go here and there. And those will fall off the first page or two quickly as people will go, chat about it a bit and be done with it.

What's being talked about is something like this:

Let's say I did the 3-Pass Blast (Stevens, Blewit, Snoqualmie). It might be useful for people unfamiliar with that ride to be able to see a map of the route (I have one), get the estimated distance in miles and a read review of each leg of the trip. If I had pictures along the way I could post them so the terrain, views and road condition could be seen.

In this example getting to see what Steven's roads are like is quite a bit different than Blewit's (long, fast sweepers compared to tighter, technical stuff). And it's also a major difference in roads (4 lanes each way compared to one lane each way -- and often long sections of "no passing zones"). And the time of day would be useful too. This is a morning to mid-day ride so you don't get stuck in the I-90 traffic on your way back, etc.

I don't know. If it isn't done it won't be a big deal. But I know when I started riding around here I would have all but killed for write-ups like that. And there are a lot of people that have been riding for years that probably haven't ventured out of their normal stompin' grounds...

You pretty much have summed it up for me. Glad I have someone like you to speak for me!
I feel there are many pluses to having a specific section for this. In many other forums, seperate sections like this end up being more popular and viewed more that any other thread. It is a way to share your places, thoughts and experiences. Not everyone has to post up, but it sure is nice to see where people go or have been.

You know what? Regardless of if this gets its own sub-forum (sub-forums get created, changed and deleted quite often anyway) the write-ups should be done. At some point if enough of them are done they could be moved to their own forum by an admin.

But between you, me and the gate post I think it's a good idea.

I am sure there are enough of us that are willing to start the write-ups. I will be happy to be the first, as I am sure you are right there with me. So, if anyone else likes the idea, please post up your ride reports and pics in your regional forum and let us see some good stuff!

Thanks Richard!

We can give it a try, and evaluate it after the riding season and see if it is a good idea. What shall we call this forum and where would it be best located?

I Ride: cuz levitating takes way to much concentration
Goin for a ride (Placed at the top of regional just cuz thats where we check for anyone who wanna ride )
(if your truely making a ride post have each post limited to a week maybe less in the summer before it gets deleted that way it keeps the news fresh and cycling through
(all parts not just regional because in the summer time its like hey i wanna go check out this road and look heres a group gonna be riding it hmm maybe i can tag along.)

Oh and how about a fave runs post where you can put your fave runs from a 10 min local run to a couple day roadtrip with TONS of info on them (from streets to and from and caution cops like to hide here (that sort of thing) complete with map some grubba stops

As this ISN'T for announcing rides it shouldn't be done in each sub-region. It should just be one forum for the entire region. It's for documenting known rides around the PNW region so people can learn about cool rides all over. a limited, smaller, forum-style http://www.pashnit.com if you will.

KneeDragGirl, what do you think?

ohh you know me soo well. That's exactly what I was thinking too. I was like WTF!!!! letting people know of these roads fucking it up for the regulars. My only beef is that when people are aware of these roads you have too many squids and stunters fucking up the fun and presenting too much traffic which in turns causes the locals to get pissed up about it and normally gets law enforcement involved. That's only if it's popular and local to the squid area. What I realized last year is that most squids don't ride away from the public and water, which is a good thing. They rarely travel beyond 100 miles in a day. Stunters need only straight roads. The places I go are way beyond their abilities. As in turn their abilities are beyond mine. In essence, I welcome the thought of a rider's review forum, but don't choose these ghey ass titles for the forum:

Just a quick, not that you haven't, http://www.pashnit.com/home.php? has a good layout and for the most part that is just what they do, i plan and talk and show roads rides etc. as so anyone can gather info as to be able to decide if that particular ride/road is for them beside it's always good reading and hopefully there's some good photos to go along witht the tale.

As far as if this will cause grief for those secert roads, as long as there's non of those 2 mile long groups that has disrespectful riders, I'd like to think we'll be okay. Independence RD. is to late to fix, It's all ready been had. Was just down there on an off day and the poo-poo wher out in force, surprised me but I knew a few years back this might happen as the area got more populated and more riders showed up. 10 Years ago it was a real hoot. still is, just now you better be looking over your shoulder now and then and pay attention to the neighborhood. It's always been in my book, one should always know where and when to get crazy.

I'd say omit the map. Maybe include a street name, but really it's the story of the ride and the pics that makes things enjoyable.

No, please tell me how you really feel. Seriously...

We're not talking about a new website, just another forum on pnwriders.com. What would you call it?

If you're concerned about the secrecy of a route then omit the map. But for rides like Cougar/Windy Ridge, the 3 Pass Blast, Highbridge (I know, it's on the endangered list), that place over by the border of WA/ID that looks like a several mile technical race track, etc. this would be ideal.

And as this will just be another forum here there isn't an option to make it look like pashnit's site. The reviews would be in a thread. The author would write it up as best they could and include pictures. The replies should only add to the review.

Those sound good too. Mine were a bit more conservative (kind of like the other titles of the forums already in existence). But yours sound good to me as well.

I wish we can have a spell check on the forums. I'm a terrible speller and having to write up a cool ride log would suck when the misspelled words ruin the overall story.

Well, write the thing up in Word, do spell check on it, copy and paste it into the forum.

Problem solved.

The only poo poo out there in 30+ times riding it has been the 1 sherriff that lives on the road itself. Since my bike is somewhat loud i actually slow down or at least ride up a gear when going past his house.

So much truth, that should be the 11th comandment.
Whatever the forum name is, it should be able to collapse like the other forums, or just put it under Oregon

oh you have to point out his house to me. Never even knew there was a sheriff on that road.

There was a place on Spencer Rd where I found out that a State Trooper lived. Saw his car right at a good spot too. Now I have to keep it reeled in.
