Day 1: Oly to Crater Lake/ Lost Creek Campground.

Once again I'm a bit overwhelmed with even where to start. I'll do like last year and just go day by day. I'm pretty tired tonight but wanted to at least start the thread.

I had planned on rollin solo again this year but Rob who lives down the street had expressed an interest in making the trip too. I gave some suggestions on what he might need etc., and come Monday morning he was @ my house and ready to go.
We met up with RVFR, R.W., and a couple of nice fellows that were up from Cali. from the VFR forum.

The 5 of us took off on 7 down to Morton.

Rob and I split off @ Morton and made our way over 25, Curly Creek etc., down into Ore. Didn;t take any pics until we got down by Mt. Hood.

The plan was to hit up FS19 in Ore., enroute to Crater Lake. We had to skip it do to construction and the day was getting long already. Got to the lake/camp gorund area as the sun was setting for the day.

Rob taking a pic.

Rob's Honda.

Just about time to find the camp ground ( Lost Creek) and get set up.

When we got to the site it was full as we made our second loop, hoping we missed a spot a gentleman on a G. Wing asked we needed a spot and offered to share his. His wing and trl. tent.

First tent shot of the trip.

The mosquitoes were visious little suckers here but I was glad I brought some Deet.

End Day 1
I'll post links to the routes as well. Obviously any adjustments/mods aren;t there but none the less:

Day 2: Crater Lake to Weaverville, Ca.

Headed S. to catch the Dead Indian Hwy. in Ore., and then into Cali on the 96. Plan was to cut across on Salmon Creek? Rd., and get some good pics of Hwy3 but but due to flooding earliear and fires the road was closed. Had to take 96 all the way down to the 299. Was a nice ride but felt long and we saw our share of CHP on the latter half of ride into Weaverville. Actually had one follow us for what seemed to be FOREVER. We were doing our part to promote safe 2 wheeled fun and he got bored I guess.

Going to be a beautiful morning.

Stopped at the end of road near campground to check these out.

Pretty amazing really. Some of these things are as tall as the trees in the area.

Started making our way S. after that.

This fall is pretty cool and thought it worthy of a pic this year too.

Will cont. Day 2 tomm................. have to work in the a.m.

So where was I.....

Day 2 Con't:

Out of C. Lake the first road up was Dead Indian Hwy. Enroute I thought about fuel but figured we would be o.k. We may have made it to the next station however my light had been on for while when we found this spot.

Was a real nice older couple running the place and they said we could have 2g ea. I believe we paid $5.40 a gallon and getting to the pump wasn;t exactley convenient.

Dead Indian Hwy is a sweet road, the further you go the better it gets. I would definatley recc. this stretch as well. Sorry I didn't get any pics, was having too much fun with my full tank of fuel

Got onto the 96 in N. Cali and after a bit we stopped to take a few pics.

Found a perfect little spot to get a wet and cool off for a minute.

After only 2 days on the road Rob was wishing for a hottie in a convertable that would pick him up.

Must have been around 4pm when we stopped in Willow Creek for a fat hamburger.

Wonder who;s helmet this is?

Nice section of river here. Can;t tell you how many times I would have liked to just jump in.

A large fircone.

Got to see a chopper coming in to get water from the river.

Ended up in Weaverville at a campground just N. of town. Mosquitoes weren;t so bad here and it was great to fall asleep next to a creek.
Insert bad tent pic.

Cool bridge across the creek.

When we were in town getting water etc., for the night we met a very drunk local dude who was impressed with our machines and was set on believing that they go 109 mph top speed and that we were crazy and cool for riding. Dude definatley had 1 too many beers?!? He was nutz.

End Day 2

Your road trip threads are always one of my favorite reads of the year, when you left Morton I was telling Jay that you were going to have your hands full making Crater Lake with the route going through Aufderheide, he told me not to worry because your a savage on these road trips and guaranteed you'd be in Crater Lake by night fall, can't wait for days 3-11

Day 3: Weaverville to Lee Vining, Ca.

This actually turned out to be a fair amount of road to travel. Cal. is a pretty big state and Rob wasn't confident in the tire he had on the rear as it was wearing out pretty quick and we were just getting going.

After my delicious instant coffee and some oatmeal at the camp ground we stopped for fuel @ the "cricket store" there in Weaverville.

You really can't beat Hwy 3 & 36 first thing in the morning. Was cool to pass up Wildwood knowing I rode last year

Rob mentioned something about peeing on a Rattlesnake and I thought he was joking...

Here's 3 going North while doing our part to prevent forest fires.

3 Southward.

Didn;t make it much farther before another quick stop and a few shots of 36.

I definatley had more fun this year on the E section of 36 having ridin' it last year. Caught air several times and just love every corner I stopped after we had some fun and Rob was grinning from ear to ear under his lid. 36 is a Hoot as Jay would say.

Stopped for a train before Cottonwood, Ca. enroute to Lassen.

Made it to Lassen

After talking to the Ranger, we contemplated even entering because of construction. After looking at the map and the added miles/time to backtrack or go around we opted for the construction adventure.

Lake just inside North entrance of park.

Was happy to actually go through the park this year and see what it had to offer.

We got in and to the flaggers at the perfect time. We were in the very back but didn;t have to wait too long. Traffic stopped many o' time and we opted to move to the front I thought it was a great idea. Driver of the pilot car thought we were rebels and gonna ride MX style past her I do believe she may have shown us the "California Bird"

A few more shots in the park after we left the constuction section.

Fair amount of gravel through this section.

These lakes were gorgeous.

Manage to pic up big 'ol bugs almost everytime after I cleaned my sheild.

Coming down out of the park you the sulfer smell was pretty strong, apparently coming from one or both of these.

From Lassen we headed S. on the 89. Actually ended up behind a Cal. County Deputy for about 40 miles but he was traveling at a nice pace so we just stayed a fair distance off his tail. ( cough80mphcough )

River somewhere along the way heading S.

Stopped in here to get a current road condition report due to the fires up ahaead.

This dude was having fun on his John Deere.

Rob drinking water while I went in to talk to dude. We drank lots of water on this adventure. LOTS!

The combo of heat and following the deputy was making us tired so we stopped off in Graegle? for a bite to eat.

Great little place and some friendly folks who were cuious about two dudes in full leathers, wondering where we were and had been.

Nice hot suace selection

Cool skull.

This nice looking group of ladies took great care of us while we were there.

Will cont day 3 shortly......................

If you make it down to Graegle ( I need to look that up so I type it correctly) as you continue S out of town towards Truckee the road is as close to perfect as a fella could want. Black top is sooooo smooth, nice 30-40 mph sweepers for a ways.

Finally made it to L. Tahoe as the day was running short on light.

We continues S. on 89 even though it was getting dark. I actually made a reservation in Lee Vining and it was past the cancellation time so I basically had a $100 + dollars that said we would make it there regaurdless. ( I will not be doing that again. There were tons of camping places up @ Tahoe.)

We rode for about 3.5 hours through the darkest night I had ever ridden. There is a pass that runs from 89 to the 395, ____? Memorial Highway and it is a twisty winding climb from whatever to about 9k' and back down. These were 10-20mph corners in the pitch black. Needless to say it was slow going.

Coming down the backside. Note the time on my 12.... we were still a ways out

Kinda dark huh?

We made it safely to Lee Vining about 11:pm. We were definatley tired when we got there. Riding at night like that is a bit stressful.

End Day 3

Day 4 tomm. I guess as it's already midnight and I should go to bed.
