Staci and I are both semi-quarantined with the flu. Not swine, but bad enough to miss all the excellent weather.

Excellent weather? Do you guys have good weather down there? We practically had to swim everywhere we went today. It's been raining up here everyday. I miss it down there.

Yeah, I've got a rain suit. Didn't help much. I needed to wear my dry suit that I use for diving. Even then, I was trying to video most of my kid's high school football game in the pouring rain Friday night. Filming sucked, but he did great and his team won, so we were pretty happy. The mud where we parked was about 3-4 inches deep. What a mess.

Well, that was thrilling. The first time I was able to be there in the last six weeks, and there was a grand total of three people, including myself.

(Cue the sound of crickets chirping...)

Abby's has a nice big lot, but it is difficult to see the bikes from inside. Plus, we have a number of folks who are boycotting them for one reason or another. I can't ride yet, and might not be able to for a while. This latest sinus issue is really proving to be a you-know-what. The thought of putting on my helmet and riding for 30 mins one way is a deal breaker at the moment. So maybe we need to start thinking of another location? Or just shut down for a couple of months, at least till the holidays are over?

Cost, food poisoning concerns, etc. Notice few folks go in and actually eat when we do have a good turn-out. I'm an ex-bus driver and have a cast iron stomach, sort of like a long haul trucker in that regard.

I think it was Jason, and it was a while back, prior to our meeting there. I just know, you go in to try and sit where you can see the bikes and there always seems to be a post in the way. Guess we could try and move the bikes more central instead of that one corner, but that would necessitate actually going in and eating since we'd be taking up more prime real estate in the parking lot.

Don't mind me, I'm just bummed that I haven't been able to get out of the house much at all in the last two weeks, this is counting the car too.

Last night was only my second time since it was moved to Abby's, but I noticed that last time when we had a good turnout.

I think I like Sonic better. The food may not be fantastic, but it seemed okay to me. No one's boycotting it that I know of. Not having shelter from the sun isn't really a factor now, with the cooler weather. Of course, it will get colder sitting outside, but that's pretty much what we do at Abby's anyway, and there's no where to sit outside at Abby's. So at this point, Sonic seems better to me.

Seems like several people refuse to go to Abby's for one reason or another. That alone means a smaller showing every time.

I know that I've only met a few of you and I don't live there, so my opinion doesn't count for much.... But, have you thought of Pete's Drive-In or The Jersey Lilly? Both have outside eating areas, with good views of the bikes. I'm sure there are a lot of other great places you could meet in Roseburg. I wish we had weather here that would invite outside dining. Up here it's just blowing sideways most of the time.

I personally will go wherever BN is, but I wont eat at abbys its just not that good in my oppinion, and way too expensive for mediocre food. I dont really think visibility is all that important this time of year. being as cold blooded as I am I can sit outside better in the winter than in the summer. I do like the idea of being able to have a beer while we hang out if there was a place where we could sit outside by our bikes but still be covered from the rain perfect.

as for BN last night I went and did the north bank loop was pretty awesome I saw four deer the moon was out just a sliver almost no traffic took me about an hour fifteen or so perfect for my schedual

There's also Johhny's Drive-In in Winston. Tables outside under shelter, and inside also. The food is good and the ice cream/shake/death-by-dairy selection is pretty amazing.

I like Johnny's but no beer. Dang it. If I can't come up with a real job after I graduate this next spring w/masters, maybe I should just look into doing a biker cafe sort of place. Good parking, view of bikes in preferential parking, jukebox, memorabilia, decent food, decent prices and maybe micro brews and coffee. I don't know how I can convince any financial institution to help me take this on since I have no food service experience beyond a single class in high school and waitressing for a year in college. oh well, I love dreaming...

The Jersey Lilly has an outdoor patio, with a parking lot view.Another area to consider would be Anthony's/McMenamins.Those who wish to sit indoors may do so at Anthony's,with a pretty much unobstructed view of the parking area. For those that might have reasons to avoid Anthony's,(You know who you are),McMenamins will allow you to have food and drink outside on the sidewalk by the same parking area...There's also Dairy Queen, though they do have a fair amount of cage traffic...That said,Pete's Drive-in would probably love to have us,but no beer at those two...

If a vote is taken,my vote will be for Anthony's/McMenamins...

For those not familiar with McMenamins, they have a varied menu, with pretty much something for everyone, and an awesome beer selection...As a matter of fact,I'm drinking one of their beers as I type this......MMmmmmmm...

Why would someone avoid Anthony's? What's up with everyone refusing to go to certain restaurants?

I think he's refering to someone being banned by Anthony's. I remember the story earlier this year, but don't remember the details or who it was.

I'm not boycotting anything... I've been either too busy or sick to make it the last two weeks, and forgot the week before...

My thing with abby's is that after eating there I always pee out of my butt.....

Rick, John and I showed and stood around in the drizzle. John is the only one who rode. I was driving the "Enterprise, NCC-1701", and Rick was also caging it. Pic to come, but not tonight.

I had to watch my girlfriends girls or I would have been... just did the 7500 mile oil change and put my new grips on. I also aired up the tires wich lost 10lbs here recently. I have my winter shield on already but still need to lube up my chain...

Russ,

Did you get your hand checked out by a doctor? I wonder if you might have pinched a nerve or something. Don't be tough and wait too long to get it checked out.

I'd have to go to the VA hospital, since I'm in the VA system and I don't have any other insurance. I never go there anymore if I can possibly help it. I'd die of old age sitting there waiting to be seen. After several tries, I've given up on that place.

Last time I went there, I was one of only three people waiting to be seen. There were at least two doctors and several nurses working in the ER. I waited out in the waiting room for three hours before they called me in. Then they took me back into one of those rooms with a bed (I noticed there was no one else in any of the other rooms), where I sat for another two hours waiting to be seen. While I was pacing back and forth for two hours talking to myself in an attempt to retain my sanity, I noticed the doctors and nurses every so often having conversations about lunch, movies, and other things while I was waiting.

My last visit to that place was my last visit to that place.

That sounds sooooo much like the 8 years I spent in the Army. When I got out, several people told me to get into the VA system for free medical care. I told them that if it was anything like the Army medical system, I'd rather pay. Even while I was still in, my wife would take the kids to a civilian doctor just to get treatment. The VA is a perfect example of why I don't want the government running our healthcare in any way, shape or form. The government screws up nearly everything it touches.

Okay, lets do something about this pathetic situation. I say we move bike night back to Sonic, just temporarily.

Everyone seems to dislike Abby's for one reason or another, and some even refuse to go there, so why are we doing this at a place no one likes? This is a no-brainer.

At least with Sonic, no one is boycotting the place, and they have a place to sit, with overhead cover in case it's raining (and it definitely has more of a biker/hot rod hangout-type atmosphere than the Abby's parking lot). Things were much better there. I'm not suggesting this as a permanent move; just for now. Everyone has different ideas about where it should be moved to and we can't seem to come to an agreement on it, so let's at least go to a place we generally like better until then.

Sonic doesn't have beer? So what? How many people are going inside Abby's to drink beer? Don't like the food at Sonic? Who cares? How many people are going inside Abby's to eat pizza?

If all we're going to do is stand around by the bikes and chat, we might as well do it at a place that no one hates and is more comfortable.

We need to make it a point to get together as a group and discuss options in order to come to a decision (or at least come closer to making a decision). Let's do that this Thursday. At Sonic. Everyone seems to be okay with that place and they have a place to sit while we hash this out. I think it was much better than Abby's. Again, it's just until we decide on a new place, then we'll go from there.

So what does everyone think?

Edit: In fact, this is such a no-brainer, I'm not even gonna wait for an answer. I'm going back to Sonic starting this Thursday, until we come to a unanimous decision on a new place. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome. If not, then I'll just sit at one of the tables and have a cheeseburger and a shake by myself and you guys can go to Abby's and stand around in the parking lot. I'll be at Sonic.
