If you're trying to make Clatskanie by 10:00, that's just less than an hour from my house. I'm only 5 minutes south of the Fred Meyer's in Warrenton. Where do you go from Hwy 47? Back down 101? I could show you from Mist to Jewell and down Hwy 53 and some other backroads to Tillamook. It's all a blast, but you will have an iron butt by the time that day is over. That means you dont have to leave until 6:30 or 7am without having to rush or slab the whole way. The wife and i are spending the weekend in Seaside, so i have all the time in the world. |

Here are some pics from today: Nevada and I waiting at the Safeway.  Waiting at the schoolhouse in Mist after our first run. Varment said that we might as well hit the twisties rather than wait.  Waiting in Vernonia for the Jasons to come up north on 47. Little did we know, they would change their route and end up in Clataskanie via another road:  Waiting in Mist after the other Jason told us there were en route. Too bad Varment couldnt make it back to Mist to meet us.     Just as Jason and John showed up in Mist to meet us:     Missed a turn-off so we stopped for a pic in front of a collapsed barn:  Back at the motel the wife and i stayed at in Seaside. I wish we coulda made it to Johns buddies house for some bbq, but we had fun otherwise:  | |

I was coming into town on 42 just west of the weigh station by the dog training kennel. I was in my big Ford crew cab pickup. I live out in Tenmile too...for now. Where out here do you live Marty? I am on top of the big hill where the cell towers are. But I keep my bike in town because the road where I live is a steep grade of 1.5 miles of loose gravel. See I suggested we take I-5 up and would have been there on time, but Jason INSISTED we don't take the interstate.... All in All was a great ride... I learned I have no confidence in my forks on corners that are all bumpy and chewed up.... My seat has a couple of streaks in it... the first of which came after Jason and I met up with John... and he took us on a road that had a jump in it..... First time I've had both tires off the ground at the same time... Also learn what a steering damper does when you don't have a steering damper, moment of revelation as it hit me "Ohhhh thats what those things do...." | |

I am sure you have read up on the swaps, but I would recommend the cheaper setup first. I was hot to swap it on Darla, but fresh, thicker oil and proper preload adjustment made everything all better. Above that, you can re-spring or get some emulators or something. | |

 I've had my wife for nearly 21 years. I think I'm going to hang on to her as long as she'll let me. Jason I. got to sleep on my futon last night (right next to his bike), so he knows where I have to go if she gets too mad at me.
I don't think my wheels came off the ground, I just came off my seat. You must have been going faster than we were. I did feel my front end come up while I was passing one of those cars though. I didn't expect that to happen. | ||
