| Training Wheels Joined: May 2009 From: Organ Donor | Ipod while riding Tried it for the first time. Not too sure how I felt about it. I bought my helmet to fit pretty snug and the first thing I noticed was that it took a little effort to just get the buds to stay in my ears while dragging the helmet over them. The snug fit wanted to rip them out of my ears slightly, and then once it was on I couldn't get my fingers up in there to push them in. So I crammed them into my ears and pulled out on the sides of my helmet and gently pulled it over. That worked decently. Messed around getting the ear bud cords NOT hooked under my chinstrap, then I was off. I still heard everything fine, other cars, my motor, but I have to say.. I found it slightly distracting. Maybe it was my "shuffle" choice of music, but I had to remind myself to concentrate on the ride. All in all.. I am not a big fan. Maybe I will try again sometime with different music. Interested in hearing other peoples experiences. |

| Superbiker Joined: Dec 2007 From: Puyallup, Wa I Ride: SHINKO's | i used to ride with ear buds in (skullcandy INK'd) loved them. blocked just enough road noise to listen to music at a low volume. so i can still hear whats going on around me. now i have the Scala Rider Q2 that has ipod and FM capabilities along with all there other features. but now i use that with ear plugs to drown out some of the wind noise. works good. |

| Superbiker | I just started listening to music while I ride. The one I used for the Carson/Cougar ride has radio and your play list. I had it on radio and forgot to switch it over, so all the while I was up in the hills....I was listening to static ..yeah I'm a noob![]() |

| Pit Crew | Etymotic ER-6's are the BEST riding 'phones. 26db noise reduction (ear plugs) + hi def headphones. They are about $100 but well worth it if you listen while riding. They also protect against hearing damage because you don't have to crank up the tunes to play over wind noise. I ride with them EVERYWHERE. Long trip, short trip, and everything in between. To me the experience can be different depending on the mood and the ride. I recall one ride where I was in the middle of nowhere doin' about 90 on a long straight stretch. Some Moby came on (don't even like Moby) that made the experience entirely surreal. The world was flying by at a fast pace, while the music was slow and soothing. Then another time Metallica's Master of Puppets came on right as I was hitting some really tight twisties. Again, amazing. |

So now I am trying a bluetooth helmet and using my Garmin as the MP3 player. It seems to be working better. Got the helmet at the Spokane Cycle Gear. It was on sale and I paid $205. ![]() I was using KOSS earbuds and I can hear better with the bluetooth. No cords to deal with. Also after a long ride my ears were sore from the earbuds. I am still on my first charge and have about six riding hours in. |

| Training Wheels Joined: May 2009 From: Organ Donor | ![]() I might try radiohead, I heard they are relaxing. Only thing I know from them is "Creep" which I like. I don't think I could handle classical, but I might give some techno type stuff a try. I have never listened to techno /shrug I certainly plan on downloading and trying songs myself.. just wondering if anyone had some suggestions on what worked for them. |

| Pit Crew | Mine too, but if you tough it out, your ear canals get tough and they don't bother you. Mine used to hurt BAD but now everything is cool. |

| Pit Crew Joined: May 2009 From: Fairwood, WA I Ride: SV650SF 08 | The one and only time I rode with music going, I was commuting to work on a rather high traffic morning. I had just pulled onto the freeway when my music went from a playlist with Red Hot Chili Peppers to one of my hardcore DJ set lists that I'd compiled for my work as a web DJ. There was mixed industrial, metal, hardcore techno and speedcore present. Typically I'm very sedate when commuting, but I quickly found myself lost in the music and ignoring my speed as I ripped through traffic on a packed out 405. I didn't really have a full understanding of my how hard I was pushing until I glanced at the clock on the gauge cluster to see I'd made my typically 20 minute freeway leg of the commute in only 12 minutes. I'm typically very mindful of how I ride when around other cars. The notion that I turned into a 100mph+ ballistic squid has kept me from listening to music again while I ride. |

| Pit Crew | Technically it is illegal to have them in both ears, but no one cares. I have taken my helmet off in front of cops and gotten pulled over while wearing the 'phones. Never got a second glance. |

When I use it with the speakers that mount in the helmet, I use swimmers wax to muffle wind and turn the speakers up...works ok. |

| WMRRA Qualifier Joined: Jan 2008 From: Warrenton, Oregon I Ride: 2004 Yamaha R1 | Blind Pilot is a great new band out of Portland; http://blindpilotmusic.wordpress.com/. Shawn Mullins is good. For older stuff, I like the Eagles, Steve Miller Band, and Pink Floyd. I listen through an Autocom intercom system. The speakers and microphone come with the system and are installed in my helmet and the passenger helmet. I can talk to my passenger easily without any screaming. I can plug MP3 player, phone and two-way radio into it. It works great. The only distraction is when you try to make changes to playlist or volume while riding. I love riding with music now. ![]() Last edited by a109driver; 05-24-2009 at 11:18 PM.. |

As I have had 2 pair's of ety's, I can say with certainty they are not the best. Try some custom molded plugs and your ety's will sit on a shelf just like mine, never to be used except as backup. | |

| Endorsed Joined: Feb 2005 From: Cashmere I Ride: RC51 and a KTM | I ride with Sennheiser noise cancelling headphones. They fit perfect with a helmet on. They have an inline volume control too. About 1.5 months ago, I bought a wireless remote from Scosche to be used with my iPod Touch. Little plug in on the bottom of the iPod and then I velcro'd the remote on my triple tree. It works sweet... I highly recommend it. All the controls right at your finger tip and buttons are big enough for gloved hands. |
