| Training Wheels Joined: May 2009 From: Winston, OR I Ride: Kawasaki Concours | Just me for the entire trip. Scott Beson (Sweet home) Aprilla Futura, rode with me from Winston to Coos Bay through Newport then bailed at Sweet home (where he lives) I ran the rest. Witnessed start adn finish By Lt. Doug Ladd OSP also a IBA rider and official witness. Varments Back is still out. Speedholes Dropped out with a email on Friday Gfeero dropped out last week and two guys from Springfield couldn't make it. This is the way these things work out. I have no issues with it, it's just how it goes. BTW I have a single GPS photo shot and a shot of my bug wiped bike that is all, other than the receipts and official verification forms. Of which I'll be happy to post. I'll post my two pic's soon enough and everyone including myself will have to wait for the certification process to happen from the IBA. Could be months. This was a somewhat tough ride and in reality I am happy to have done it for the most part alone. I really don't know how a new (to endurance riding) rider would have done on this one, other than most likely it would have taken several hours longer. This is just the way it is with multiple inexperienced riders. I'll set up another ride albeit somewhat easier interstate style ride so people can get their feet wet. This ride in retrospect would have been a tall order for a beginner. GPS Shot from the 76 station on Harvard Bug eyed Windshield shot today at home. Most of them along "Pole Creek" outside of Vail on HWY 20 east bound towards Burns Copies of gas receipts from Loves, Coos Bay, Newport, Mt. Vernon, Vale, Bend and Roseburg with a Denny's receipt as the 76 did not have a freaking time stamp! Last edited by 2linby; 08-09-2009 at 07:15 PM.. |

| Training Wheels Joined: May 2009 From: Winston, OR I Ride: Kawasaki Concours | ![]() Long Distance Endurance rides are something that is just hard to explain to those that haven't been on them and impossible to explain to those that just will never make the attempt to try to understand. I'll never sky dive, so I guess I just can't understand "that" thrill, but I guess I can explain it this way. An LD ride is a personal attempt to learn more about yourself through pushing the envelope of comfort, but not at the cost of stupidity. If you want to know more about your capabilities then it is wise to first become a student of the discipline, learn all you can then start applying what limited knowledge you have very carefully at first and even more carefully later on as this is something one can never become cavilier about. Like a munitions expert playing with dynamite. Does mean it can't go boom just because you are an "expert". I am no "expert" just a careful student. Every ride is an adventure. Physically and spiritually. And like every trip it can only start if you are willing to take the very first step, but with eyes open. I've been able to share it here and if there are intersted parties, perhaps the future will hold another ride. Besides no-one has to wait for my permission, I just wanted to share that's all. Not to be cliche, but All's you have to do is Just do it. Besides I get to ride a motee -cycle all freaking day long! How can that not be fun! HA! ![]() |

| Newbie Joined: Aug 2009 From: Roseburg, Oregon I Ride: Honda V65 Magna, Suzuki TU250X | Okay, here's a ride that I just love: From Roseburg, travel east on 138 to Rock Creek Road, just east of Glide. Go north on Rock Creek Road, all the way to the end. Turn right onto BLM 13 0. Take no turns until you get to Row River Rd. Turn left from Sharps Creek Rd onto Row River Rd, then to Cottage Grove. Be sure to fuel up in Cottage Grove. When you get to Cottage Grove, turn left onto Gateway Blvd. Turn right onto E. Main. Main St. eventually turns into Cottage Grove Lorane Rd. When you get to Lorane, turn left onto Territorial Rd. Turn right onto Hwy 99 near Curtin, toward Drain. Take Hwy 99 to Yoncalla. Turn left near Yoncalla High School onto Elkhead Rd. Elkhead Rd to Oakland, then to Sutherlin and back to Roseburg. If anyone wants to go, let me know. I'm almost always ready for a ride. |
