| Pit Crew | Road trip debriefing Ok, as some of you know, I took a bit of a road trip this weekend. Some guys from work and I came up with a last-minute idea for a little over 1000 miles. There were 5 of us total: 2 V Strom 650's (Mike and Josh) 1 BMW R1150R (Derek) 1 BMW R1150GS (Cam) 1 BMW R1100S (me) Day 1 (sort of): We leave from work around 4:30PM. Head to Bandon via Coos Bay Wagon Rd. and 42S. Arrive at Bullards Beach Campground at around 6:30PM. Since we had like 6 hours of beer-drinkin' time until bed, we each picked up a 12 pack. Drank heavily, burned a bunch of shit, and surprisingly did NOT get booted out of the campground. Toll thus far: 1 puker (Cam) Day 2: Wake up at the crack of 9AM and pack up. Stop by my parents house to pick up my tent and campchair (slept in a 2 man tent with another guy last night Toll for day 2: Lost a water bottle on 101 somewhere, but other than that it was a low-key, under-the-radar day. Day 3: Wake up, pack up and hit the road to St. Helens. Laugh at the ridiculous comparisons they use ("Erupted with a force equal to 27,000 Hiroshima bombs), hang out at the visitor center, hit up the Bigfoot Country shop, and head out. Took the backroads to Cougar, camped there, drank a box of Franzia and more beer. Toll for the day: One broken tent pole, another puker (Mike), I dumped my bike in the gravel, and some Habanero jerky that burned twice. Ouch. Day 4: Wake up, pack up, and head south to Wikiup Res. Took 97 most of the way. Found a SWEET campsite at Wikiup. Rode AROUND Wikiup which is a sand road if you are not aware. Let me tell you, sportbike in sand=not good. I got stuck and had to push a couple of times. Had to drive all the way back to HW97 for beer and food. After almost wrecking, then finding a car on it's top we end up back at camp around 11:30PM. Long ass day. Toll: One pissed of sportbiker (me) for having to ride 15 miles on sand and washboard. One pair boxer-briefs lost their life in the campfire, but it was probably better that way. Day 5: Wake up, bathe in Wikiup, ride to Crater Lake, through the park, down through Tiller to I-5 and home. Overall mileage for the trip was a little over 1200. I also found out that my bike wheelies REALLY WELL with 100lbs of shit on the back I like one of the guys on the trip, but the man can't ride a damned motorcycle. You couldn't follow him because he can't regulate his speed, and you didn't want him behind you because he can't brake for shit and does not pay attention. He actually flew by me a few times, ran into Cam once, and consistently cut us off. He doesn't mean to, but he rides like a jackass. Oh well, I digress GREAT trip, wonderful vacation, and saw/found some of the best roads in the NW for riding ![]() |
