Bike night revisions
Ok, let me start by saying that this is just an idea, I am down to keep the status quo if that's what people want.

Now, on to the juice:

I am making a proposition to move Bike Night to another location.

Let me explain myself: We started Bike Night at Sonic because we wanted a central location where people riding by could see us and stop by. Thus far, no one has stopped by.

Also, Sonic is OK and all, but really the food is mediocre and we are FORCED to sit outside. What if we picked a place that we could hang out all summer and all winter? Wouldn't it have been nice if we could have gone into some A/C on those 212 degree days? As it cools off, I don't want to freeze my ass off outside.

Next point: As previously stated, Sonic food is fairly standard. I think it would be cool to pick a place where we could get some good food if we wanted ,maybe order a beer, and sit and chat. I am totally jealous of Corvallis' Bike Night at American Dream Pizza and would like ours to be a little more like that in this regard.

Lastly, maybe it's just me, but I feel a bit cheesy hanging out at a fast-food joint.

I don't have a place picked out or anything, but I thought it may be worth a brainstorming session. McMenamins would be OK except that the parking sucks. Any other ideas? We have under-agers in the group so a full on bar is out unless they allow them in until later or something.

What do y'all think?

I don't drink anymore, so I don't care about beer, and I'm fine with a burger joint. So the food issue doesn't really matter to me.

But I'm a bit paranoid about security, and people who are stupid enough to walk up and sit on someone's bike without permission (I've seen a friend's bike get knocked over because some idjit didn't know the first rule of biker etiquette: you can look, but don't touch). It would need to be a place where I can keep an eye on the bike from inside.

I am game for what ever the group wants... but I think a lot of people will fear change... (sorry for not making it to bike nights by the way)

Does it have to be the same place all the time. Why not change locations. Post up on Monday where someone wants it, and on Thurs show up there. On some other threads, someone will just post up a bike night somewhere and people start showing up.

One night at Mcmenamins, another at Abbeys Pizza, maybe some night in Winston on Sutherlin. How about the pizza parlor on the south end of Myrtle Creek past the Abbey's?

the only thing that im not into about sonic is that there is no shade. for summers i am forced to ride by or miss it all together.
i think it should be a central place (like sonic) and not change every week. i missed the wood and surely ill miss a location. i think itll cause folks to possibly miss because either you cant remember where it was gonna be or you didnt get to check the internet. this is roseburg riders/pnw roseburg section and i think the meet should stay in rsbg.
im not too thrilled about having it at a bar place. or any food serving just because we serve alcohol place either. i dont care if folks drink but im not into meeting with such drinking and riding folks. nothing good comes from bikes on booze.
what do the others who attend BN think??

Well.. I think this is a great idea. I was actually thinking about that myself.

How about abby's on stephens? I would also say dakota street pizza co. but they are in sutherlin and i do like the idea of keeping it in roseburg.

Here's another idea: How about a compromise just to add a little variety. For example, alternate each week between an indoor place and an outdoor place.

Let's say the food place is changed to Abby's pizza due to Sonic's lack of shade. Then alternate... Abby's one week, Stewart Park the next. Shade/shelter in both places, and the weekly change will make it more interesting than the same place every week. Can't buy food at the park, of course, but we're only there for an hour or two anyway, and it would alternate with a food place where you can pig out to your heart's content.

When the weather gets too cold for outdoors, just make it indoor-only for the duration of the winter, then go back to alternating in the Spring.

I'ld be willing to bet that there's a place that would be thrilled to have us hang out once a week. however I also like the stewart park Idea because I think it would be super cool to BBq. I live right across the street from there and would totally show up with my grill and cook a bunch of burgers we could pitch in for a case of soda or something I really dont like buying fast food so I just get a drink at sonic anyway.

Good idea, I didn't even think of that.

I can't carry anything on my bike (food, drinks, etc), but I can pitch in to help cover the costs.

The only drawback to the BBQ thing is we never know how many people will show up.

I find the best way to deal with that is someone who we know will be there like me supplies the meat then anyone else who comes can bring something to share pot LUCK style that way we at least have meat and then anything else is lucky/bonus i figure anyone who could buy food at sonic could buy a bag of chips or a bag of salad etc besides if I told my wife about this Idea she loves bbqing for people. actually I bbq shes does all the rest and its usually good

Just my opinion, I'd rather buy a fantastic burger or something else.

Also, I just like the option of drinking a beer over the course of an hour while socializing.

Why not meet one more time at Sonic and talk to every one who shows up then. Get live, one on one feedback and come to a general consensus with everyone there.

Hey Click, the Brewmaster at Mc'M's hurt his back again and isn't sure if he will be able to continue brewing for them. Want me to keep my ears open for you if he retires and the spot opens up or is it too small beans roseburg for you?

Visibility and pizza isn't very good, but it is cheap. Not to mention how close either one of the pizza places is for me. Hey, how about Susie's, but we'd have to change it to Friday's since she isn't open on Thurs. nights?

I keep trying to get my hubby to help me open either an In-n-Out or an old style Cafe Racer biker hang-out. You know, back in the day when they would start the 45 on the record player, and race to a certain point and then back before the needle lifted? Old school. I think we need one down here at exit 103, right across from the service station and McD's. Have a couple of flat screens for the big races and all sorts of memorabilia and garage art on the walls. Maybe an old race bike or two... Discounts for bikes and vintage cars. Oh I have dreams, just no money to make it happen.

my lottery tickets were losers again...

Then Susie's is out, unless we can convince her to be open just for us on Thurs. nights? That's ok, it's not in Roseburg anyways.

I don't think I would give up my job for brewing for McM in Roseburg. Ya, I grew up there and love a lot of things about it, but not living there and brewing for McMenamins. Why don't you keep a look out for it and try to get the brewing job yourself. By the way, are you still bringing beer to Diamond Lake? If you bring a corny keg, we can hook it up to my CO2 line and pour through a cobra head.

McMenamins or Anthony's would get my vote, but I'm open, just as long as the location is published here a few days ahead of time. Both locations could get the visual for passing traffic you were after.

I like the idea of a cafe biker hangout. I know I'd patronize it. And I think with appropriate advertising, a location within a reasonable distance to I-5 and twisty roads would attract outside area customers as well. I make it a point to go to Alice's south of San Francisco once a year, cause it's cool and the food is good!

"Johnny's in Winston"? or The "Winston Take out"

Take the backroads there and then home. No brew but I don't and ride.

Just a suggestion.

If it's at Johnny's, I might as well walk, 'cause I'm right around the corner.

Well, nothing really happened last week (or since then) regarding changing the location, so I assume we're still doing Sonic tomorrow? It seems there are too many people unaware that it might change as of yet, so changing it at the last minute would be a bad idea.

Yep the joys of having to come back to reality and be responsible. Sort of stinks at times. However, it can be a joy most of the other times.

Hope to escape long enough to say "Hi" and grab a limeade tomorrow.

bob's deli could be an option. right off stephens by little caesar, indoor area for the extreme temp days, parking lot is good size as most of the other businesses are closed by that time.. and there is the parking lot right next door that is almost always empty.

and its a small locally owned business, which is always a plus

Here are my thoughts:

-Part of the success of a weekly Bike Night lies in consistency. Variety is cool, but if we switch it around, we're likely to stunt growth.

-Sonic's food sucks. It's outside, so the weather has an impact on turnout.

With these points in mind, I'm voting we move it to Abby's on Stephens, same night, same time, and we keep it there. We can have an occasional meet and greet every so often on another night at some other place if we want to, but we have ONE bike night location. There's lots of parking, it's on a sort-of main drag, it's family-friendly, etc.

Whatever we do, let's make it official for next week.
