I have been learning about HDR Photography and I really want to get into more stuff like this So i thought it would be cool to start a thread where people can post their artwork and get positive criticism on it!

here's one i took the other day and i just edited it.

What kinda artists do we have in roseburg!

I can't do any kind of stuff that would be considered art, but I can fiddle around with
basic effects on the computer. Here's one I did the other day (made it my new avatar)..

That almost looks roto-scoped, rather than HDR.

My Canon does exposure bracketing. Looks like I'll need to get it out and try some of this HDR stuff

My parents have a friend in Myrtle Creek who's into that sort of photography. He does it full-time, makes some pretty good money at it. Some of the pictures he's done are amazing.

I like the pic, Elijah. Reminds me of the old drawings of cars at drive ins or in fields. Something like that.

its where you take a series of pics 3 to 8 or so and then you blend those images into one.
one image would be exposed for the highlights
one image would be exposed for the mids
one image would be exposed for the shadows
etc etc etc. when you put them together they make an image that has a high dynamic range.
some cameras do this in the body some cameras bracket and will take a series of pics as you specify and some folks take several pics and merge then into one in a photo program and there are also cameras that will take a hdr pic as a function.

I can take lots of pictures of rocks and weeds and my left big toe, but I mean the technical stuff you guys are talking about. I'm good at angles and lining up shots, but I don't know how to do the things you're describing.

in the years that ive been shooting, ive met with quite a bit of what i like to call photo snobbery. these folks dont like to share how they got the pics they did and act like you are beneath them for not knowing the technical side of photography. cameras now-a-days are so much better than they used to be that it doesnt take a photo major to take good pics. just because you have a pro model camera doesnt mean that anyone else cant take as good or even better pics. sure there are good lenses and then there are great lenses, but anyone who is interested in getting better can do it. i shoot anything from weddings to stringer stuff for local papers. its not rocket science. weeds and rocks are great subjects!! they are everywhere you look and there is quite a variation. make a point of shooting every single day. you said youve got kids?? shoot the hell outta them too!
then there is the digital manipulation side of photography which is a whole other game. photography is exactly what you want and how and everyone is different. theres room for all.

Yeah, I do that. Got hundreds of pictures on the computer since I got my first digital camera two years ago. I still haven't read the book that came with it, I just leave it on 'auto' and let the camera figure it out.

That's the part that sounds really interesting, but I guess I should learn how to use my camera first.

why not just do what you do? leave it on auto and dive into the photo-chopping part? green box auto is pretty good at deciding on what settings to use. with the programs that are out the sky isnt a limit anymore on what you can do with images. if you think it, it can be done. (of course i exempt myself from editing. beyond simple changes, i have no clue)

Ok, let's see if I can post one more pic on here... I do like what I'm seeing of the HDR stuff. Thanks for the idea Elijah and Jennifer. Look out world, the camera is back out of the drawer and I'm taking pics!

The watermarks will need to stay till I decide if it's worth shelling out the bucks to get the official license. Otherwise, this is way more fun then my online school work.

If you are talking about HDR you should use a program called photomatix Pro to start off, once you become more of an expert you can use photoshop.. its more complicated in PS, And Shoot in RAW, they always come out better.
