Talking Desert Dash Rally in Burns
Well, I put over 800 miles on the Sporty, and took almost 36 hrs. to do it. Not quite an iron butt run, but it was enjoyable. The Desert Dash has changed since the first couple of times we participated. This time, it was pretty small. Back in '05 and '06, there were a lot of cars and bikes on display, many took part in the poker run and it was so large that they had to use the fairgrounds ('05) and then the casino RV park ('06). Both of those years, there were many vendors and things to look or shop at, along with admiring all the shined up chrome and fresh paint.

This year was a bit of a disappointment. The event is being planned by a different group than in years past, and it is lacking something. I don't think any cars took part in the poker run, there were only a handful of vendors and only two of those were bike related. The food vendors were charging exorbitant prices and since it was held at a park, the beer garden, and camping all had to be done in different locations. I prefer not to drink and ride, which I know is the exception instead of the rule, but in the years past, it was far more convenient to be able to park your bike in the show, and then walk to the beer garden. Then you weren't moving it around during judging and you were in the same place for peace of mind.

Since we used to live over there, it was more of an excuse to go visit friends and see how things were going with some projects that were started before we left. We'll probably go again, but I'll probably be doing the loop in reverse for better light, and possibly not during the Dash. I will make a few suggestions to the organizers, but we'll see what sort of reaction I get. If they tell me to buzz off, I'll be doing it solo from now on. If they are willing to take my ideas under advisement, then we'll see if I repeat it next year. For sure the Crystal Crane Hot Springs are the place to stay!

Only one pic showed up. Well, if you look hard, you might see my little Sporty hiding amidst the big bikes.

So, here are a couple more pics.

Have no clue. But I have since learned how to resize pics when I put them on Photobucket. See the photo tag stuff. (That is, I hope you can see them)

Gwen - I just pretend to be computer literate.
