That's an aesthetic design flaw that crept into British bikes some decades ago, and detracts from the uniquely-British shapes of the past, which were so organic. The problem with "modern" motorcycle design stemming back three or four decades resulted from the incorporation of large fairings, enabling the designers to just worry about function of the hidden mechanicals, and stop making the working parts beautiful to look at, too. This unfortunate design ethic has "progressed" now to the point that there are many, many bikes with fake parts, such as the "fuel tank" and "air scoops" on the V-Max, which are merely covers for ugly machinery. In my opinion, covers should only be used for protection (e.g., heat shields), or for appropriate aerodynamics. I mean, really, if you like sheet metal so much, buy a car. |
