I've got a pair of Shinko 006s on my R1200RT and they beat the Metzler Z6s six ways from Sunday. They're quiet and sticky what more can you ask from a pair of tires? Most of the "big name" tires are both over rated and over priced.

I agree ^^^^^ this

I will be hard pressed to spend more than $200 for a set of tires after riding on these Shinko's...

I make no apologies.
If you can 100% back up everything you say, let me hear the, "Suck. Squeeze. Bang. Blow.Repeat 100x/sec.", sometime out loud from you.

Is this a provocation or challenge of some sort?

Sure, I'll be more than happy to say it right to your face, but I'm not sure it would have much meaning in that context...
But, "as you wish" (from Princess Bride).

I'm not sure you understand the reference.
Do some research on the interweb and let us know what you come up with.
("100x/sec" is an important detail - do the math...)

The older motorheads get it.

I don't understand your point -(?)-

I think the front tire still looks fine but I'm replacing both anyway... the stock 020 caught a pretty huge nail and was plugged for most of its life and i got the Road Attack as a freebie from Speedholes with about 1 or 2 k on it.

the Road Attack only has about 5k total on it and is done, My 020 had about 1 or 2 k left on it when i replaced it and it had a little over 5 k on it. I'm hoping to get at least 8k out of the Shinko's....

Putting the 009's on the 01 VFR this week. I'm hoping the same (8k+). I think it's the perfect bike for this tire.

Just be aware that they will feel weird at first but it does go away quickly... I didn't rail them but never felt one ounce of slippage....

Hi all. I wanted to chime in here. I found this thread while searching for info on the Shinkos. I am in Albany, NY and hope it's ok that I join your discussion.

I just had a set of the Shinko 011 Verge tires put on the FJR. I picked the bike up from the dealer this morning at 9am and headed out to ride the Catskills with them. I knew good and well that I should take it easy for the first 40 or 50 miles to scuff them up and they wont be as slippery.

Right. I made it about 10 miles and couldn't wait any longer. I was taking a couple friends on their first trip south of Albany and I had this road that I really love. I didn't go full bore through the twisties, but I had it over pretty far. I never felt a slip. I've used all of the rear tire except maybe 3/4" to 1 from the edge.

I remember mentioning to my passenger that I had never felt a difference in tires on any bike I had ridden where I have used more that one set of tires. I've never had a tire slip on me. Maybe I just don't ride hard enough.

These Shinkos felt pretty good. They seem smoother than the stock Metzeler Z6's that were on it before, and are extremely sticky in the corners. I am very pleased. Put just over 200 miles on them today and never once had a problem.

I do wonder how they will be in the rain. They seem a little more "sportbike" than the Metz's that were on there previously. Anyone have any feedback on that?

I know somebody who started running at least a front shinko on his superduke instead of a PP 2CT. he consistantly went with at least the shinko in the front.

Not quite the Pacific Northwest, huh?

Welcome!

Damn, I miss riding in the Catskills.
I used to ride around the Ashokan Reservoir a lot.

I'll chime in now. I do prefer the shinkos on the front better feel to me than the pilot power, I've been running the 011 since the spring with no complaints, except one , that being that the rear is steel belted makes for a heaver tire. Wear has been excellent 4500+ miles with several thousand to go.

What they are not is a track tire. For a street tire they offer nutrual handling. And for most people out there they will do every thing needed for a street tire.

I think I'm like most and have used several different tires not being loyal to any of them. I put 009's on my VFR and never had any issues with them at all. In fact I was trying to find flaws in them because of the price point.

I ride it hard and have 1/8 inch strips left only on the front. I have felt the rear come out a little when leaned to the edge and then only under real heavy acceleration, but I like feeling.

I just came back from a 4 day 1,300 mile ride this weekend to try to "finish off" these tires in preparation for an 8 state, 3 week trip the first of August and they still have rubber left with 8K on them. I hit all my fun spots: Around the east side of Lake Coeur d' Alene, Old Spiral Hwy, Rattlesnake and Rowena to name a few, and never lost confidence in the grip.

I just bought 011 Verge for the trip and look forward to trying them out. This is the first time I have ever bought from the same manufacturer twice in a row.

Ever tried the Shinko slick or have any knowledge of them for track day use?

I have only read one review of the slick and it wasn't favorable.

The 003's are a favorite with drag racers due to price and grip... the 006 through 011 seem to be as good or better than comparable tires costing twice as much or more...

I paid less for both my tires than other pay for just the rear...
