Anyone have any thoughts or opinions about bike mounted cameras?

V-holdR is coming out with an HD (1280x720) camera called the ContourHD for $299. V-holdR's original offering, called simply the V-holdR, was perhaps the best camera on the market and they are using the same form factor for the new ContourHD. Durability and simplicity is the hallmark - I have literally used mine as a frame slider, and it still works. No other camera on the market can say that. Slow Eric, another rider on the PNWR Racing team, had his fall off at 120+mph (didn't mount it properly), and when he went back and found it, it was still running. Interesting footage

Corey Baum (Cjbaum) and I are vendors of it, and will be receiving the first ones on May 15th. PM or email me at chris@performance-source if you're interested.

got the gopro hero. it does ok, comes with a crapload of mounts including a suction cup that's surprisingly strong. it's basically a wideangle lens in a box though, no viewfinder or preview screen. i usually carry 2-3 2gb SD chips for it, each one holds about 50 mins. battery life can be tough... after 2 rides i need a new set of AAA's, of which it takes 2.

here are a couple of vids i shot with it (HQ is better):

not too shabby, considering the $200 price point.

I have a Go-Pro Hero also,
pretty simple,
takes decent videos
sound is crappy (but it's inside a waterproof case)

and it was pretty cheap

came with lots of mounts too

good for the money

I bought a canon zr830. it's a typical consumer type camera that records on a miniDV tape.

works great for me because I can mount it on the bike (but not with as many options as the go pro or vholdr) but I can also use it for other stuff too.

I have 3 of the VholdR's already and 2 of the CountourHD's on pre-order. (come on 15th!!!! ) They are awesome cameras! Built like tanks, easy to mount, have a cool laser lighting system to set up your horizon so you know you're shooting level and super easy to operate. If you're out at PR next Wednesday (13th) for the track day, stop by SPF's pit. He's using 2 of mine that day.

I am looking for a camera that can be hidden so if I was speeding or passing in a no pass the camera wont be evidence for the cop if I stop. Is there a camera that you can plug a bullit cam in to, thats small enought to be put in a rear cowl?

I think I already know the answer to this, but do you guys ever have any issues with the VHoldR shutting down due to excessive vibrations? This is what made my ATK2k unuseable at anything >~10,000rpm say, without significant vibration damping.

If you have a decent camera already and are looking for just a mounting system Ram mounts are sweet. There are so many different variations! Well check it out. http://www.ram-mount.com/Products/Mo...8/Default.aspx

My VHoldR's have never shut down due to vibrations. I did have issues with the first version that came out V1.0 as it's metal clip that holds the battery down was not strong enough. So it would shut off after the bike got rolling. But it wasn't due to vibrations but due to the weak metal clip. They replaced it no questions asked with the V1.2 that has a Orange slider clip that holds the battery nice and snug. Brandon down at Twenty20 (makers of VholdR) (on Dexter in Seattle) totally rocks and did the replacement on the spot!! They back their product up big time!!

Bought a cam for 68$. Same dimensions as the vholder, same frame rate, resolution. Worked out great on the bike yesterday, to bad the camera was pointed all wrong.

Link to above mentioned cam? I'd really like to see the build quality.
