Discussion in 'Westside' started by WaGigKPN, Aug 11, 2012.

  1. My cousin and i are meeting in puyallup tomorrow around 1:30. We want to ride around the mt Rainier area but my only experience out there is driving to crystal. I think we want to do a loop around the mt or maybe up 410 a ways. Anyone is welcome to join but we r not racers!
    Give us some ideas!

If I didn't have a wedding (not mine ) I'd go along as a guide, but since I can't, here is what I would do.

  3. Looks good! Its always a crap shoot with Google maps if a road is actually a road and not some logging trail...

Some time i want to ride to the highest drivable point in Washington....

We might go across 410 to the first town over the pass then back

Would like ti ride with you some time tex
  4. I'd go if it started earlier in the day..
  5. Yeah...we both have church...god first
  6. What about the 706? Is that a good road?
Is that part of the park where you'd have to pay to ride through?
  7. Gonna meet in puyallup around 130. Location tba...text me if anyone wants to join. Route still tba but leanimg toward 410 up and back. Going to be a loooong ride. Plan on it being dark when u get home.

If you are heading over the pass to a place to snack and coffee it's most likely going to be Whistling Jack Lodge.

The transit time from Google will be fairly accurate on a Sunday afternoon, because you will be dealing with returning weekenders. Neither a good thing nor a bad thing, just a fact of life when riding in the Cascades on a Sunday afternoon.

If the bride today was not such a good friend of both mine and Admiral Martha I really would like to tag along this afternoon. Don't worry, WaGigKPN, we shall go forth and terrorize small towns together some day. I foresee a call for a ride to Wynoochee for a Saturday ride sometime soon.

BTW: The road through the park, AKA Stevens Canyon, is best done on a weekday. It's a great ride with lots of sweeping vistas, but traffic and rubberneckers can really screw up the enjoyment.
  9. This is what we ended up doing. Left Enumclaw Around 2pm. Got home just before 10pm. 240 miles indicated. Couldn't ask for a better day!

Now for pics, cause without pics it never happened!

    Top of Chinook Pass

    Cowlitz river canyon

Up at Paradise, Snow arc over creek!

    Nisqually river head water

Love that its only 5 bucks for bikes in Rainier National Park!
My ass was killing me by the end of the ride...
