88/89 CR500 Restore Underway

  1. Thought you might like to see the latest project/projects
    a 1988 and 1989 CR-500,
    got the frames back from powder coat last week now waiting in the swing arms and fork lowers for the 88[​IMG][​IMG]
    I think I found a motor for the 89 :mrgreen:

  3. Oh snap, I will be watching this like a hawk! So far, so good. Can't wait to see the final products.
     
  4. Thanks, I will try and keep updates coming. These will be like new when done, so far, I replaced the clutch, clutch rod,installed all balls steering stem bearings and races on both, replaced fork seals on the 89 (waiting on the lowers on the 88) installed new hi flow aluminum radiators, new ims stainless footpegs on both, new 1-1/8 top triple clamp, replaced seat cover on 88 the 89 cover is on the way. The top end is new never been started, olhins rear shock on the 89 pictured and I have a line on a motor for the 89.
    If anybody has any parts hit me up

    Oh sweet. I had an '89 125 back then, always loved the look of those years, very clean looking. Great project, make one a Stanton replica.
     
  8. I really want to, I quit riding dirt bikes in the early 80's due to injurys mostly.
    But there are so few places to ride anymore close to Seattle area I will probably rip up and down the road a few times and sell them. Restoring them is just kind of a hobby.

I can't wait to throw a leg over one of these just to see how much power these have the last dirt bike I owned was a 1980 440 Maico that I bought brand new ( I loved that bike) I owned many suzuki 400s, huskys, but never was a Honda fan back in the 70's, but I know these were great bikes. For anyone interested these will be for sale and in excellent condition when I'm done. :devil:

    There was this time, ... a few (!) years back....
    Rich Oliver showed up at Sears Point and rode a Kosman built CR500 at an AFM event..... Freaking amazing!
     
  14. Well, the project moving along, got all new fork seals, powder coated the swing arm and fork lowers (super silver, metallic) swing arm bearings including pivot bearings installed. Put on a nice skid plate, installed forks, trying to decide if I like the fork boots or go without, What do you think?
    That is for the 1988[​IMG][​IMG]
    Now for the 1989,
    I Got A Motor, In excellent condition with one ride on the rebuild, The guy wanted to try out the sand, bought a paddle tire and smoked the clutch, so there it sat for about 5 years, Even thru in a brand new, in the box clutch. Recovered the seat, installed all new swing arm and pivot bearings on it and also had the swing arm powder coated at the same time[​IMG][​IMG]
    And now for the kicker, when I bought the motor for the 1989 the guy said he thought he could get the rest of the bike, I said let me know I would be interested, he called and for $300.00 more I got this[​IMG]
    Including almost new black Excel Rims with a brand new rear honda hub which I really wanted but didnt think I could justify buying new, all the electronics (CDI,Coil,etc) cables, all the plastics, the tank is in killer condition, seat etc, the whole complete bike. I am so Happy:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

  15. Couple pictures of the other side, cleaning up the shock right now should have it installed tonight side.[​IMG][​IMG]

    so now you have 3 of them and 2 motors?

    How can you pass up all those parts for $300.00 lots of stuff I needed to finish the other two and when I'm done I will sell one roller w/title .

    Screw that! Find a 3rd motor and build all of them :D
