I can get into first fine. Shifting into neutral/second/third/4/5 is almost impossible. I dunno what happened. It started this morning on my way home at 430am from a friends. it chilled out after a lil bit, then this evening for a good 40 min ride it was non stop, I had to put my whole foot under it an jam it up just to get it to go up a gear, going down a gear was no problem though. any ideas what's going on? I want to ride this weekend, going to be pissed if this can't be fixed by then. I get paid tomorrow, any mechanics....
check oil. Check Shift Linkage. If it is rusted etc. It sounds like shift shaft and plates, might have warped somehow. or mebe shiftforks?
checked oil the other day, it's middle between lines, so good. but hasn't been changed since sept the guy said. but also hasn't been ridden much. i dunno how to check linkage or anything else. i'll have to ask sax or drive it somewhere an have someone look at it.
Sax is the go to guy for sure Jonny.. When I talk to him next, I'll get some ideas on what to have you check or shoot him a email on here. Aprillia is his name
not after market. sax if u see this call me 971 678 0371 how do I check the cable ? I need to fix this today. I get home CEO work at 430
I got some chain wax on my shift linkage once. I was having very similar problems and it progressively got worse. I would pull all the linkage, clean it up, lube it and see what ya got. Can you put it on a stand and manually move the lever up and down? Does it feel really stiff?
I had a similar problem with my last bike. you shift star might have come loose... that would require you to remove your clutch basket to verify... or maybe you damaged a clutch plate our the bagsket itself.. start by changing your oiland adjusting your clutch cable.
i wanna ride this weekend, lol. not next week. gotta get this fixed asap. even if i have to take it to a shop
i appreciate it but thats just a lil to far for me right now, still gotta eat an jus worked all day. but I changed the oil. it was pitch black. on the ride home i was able to get into second easier. but at one point it did jam up again, so maybe there is still something wrong. if it isn't the oil, then the problem seems intermittent. It'll work for a lil bit, then stop working for a bit. I don't quite know how to adjust my clutch cable, i twisted that thing by the clutch and it was loose i hand tightened it? i looked down by the clutch lever, nothing appears rusted. So I dunno, hopefully it was just the oil an it's workin the kinks out. I think it's something else though.
It's unlikely that a simple clutch cable adjustment is the problem. Oil can turn black within 50 miles, so wouldn't be too worried about that. Did you notice any clutch slippage before this happened? If not, it's probably a linkage or shift fork problem. Any previous problems with jumping out of gear?
no slippage or jumping out of gear or anything. just out of nowhere trouble shifting. no idea what it is. hoping someone can take a look at it this weekend so i can buy the part an fix it. i know the oil was old though, the guy i bought it from is a buddy of mine. hasn't changed it since sept.
You've a bike that's new to you. Oil, clutch drag, shift rpms are the easy things to try. You've done oil. As you turn that thing by the clutch to screw it away from the clutch lever you are adjusting the clutch to engage/disengage (e/d) earlier in the clutch pull. Probably good in your case. If you tightened it by screwing it toward/to the clutch lever, you are making the clutch more likely to drag. Adjust it so it e/d's by the time the clutch lever is only 1/4 or 1/3 pulled in. Idle it, turn that thing until the e/d point is in the outer part of the pull (can tell by rpm's dropping as clutch eased out, in gear). I had an acquaintance buy a used Bandit and then complain about the shifting. I suggested oil change, and shift above 4000: = end of problem.
