carpool/express lanes?

Discussion in 'Westside' started by mcote, Mar 18, 2012.

  1. so i took my bike out for a bath today, and had an enjoyable time and only almost got killed by 2 cagers, i figure the ratio of cars on the road thats not too bad.

ANYWAYS, whats the rule for the carpool and express lanes, i know on sometimes its says motorcycles OK, but if it doesn't do i need a passenger on my bike for that?

PS, does anyone else have to fight the urge to kick down and just let your pipes sing in the i90 tunnels?

  2. Hell yes! Only done it once and when I got to the other side of the tunnel I check my rear view and there is a charcoal grey charger behind me and I can see an assortment of antenna on his roof:ninja: No award though8)

I THINK - w/o looking it up - That M/Cs are ALWAYS OK in carpool lanes W/O a passenger - Not quite sure of the Express lane rule...

The motorcycle access to the HOV lanes is guaranteed through federal statute, not through state law. We worked this year (the Washington Road Riders Association) to get language in the RCW to ensure motorcycle access also, in the off chance that federal laws change. There was a lot of support in the legislature for this in principle, but not a lot of time to move the issue.

We will continue to make that a priority for next year, when we are not fighting a "short" session and budget crunches.

  13. So,... Bus only lanes?

  14. OK, not bus lanes or bike lanes... but cmon :)

Can get busted for crossing the solid white HOV lines on 167, same as cars.
    Still subject to merge rules.

Not only that, but I know that in at least some cases bikes get to go to the front of the line to get on the ferry. I don't know about most of the ferries, but at Edmonds bikes can bypass the entire line of cars waiting and go right up to the ticket taker. You can even park by the ticket taker and go inside to buy a ticket if you don't have one.

How does it work with other ferry terminals? Are we suppose to bypass the long line of cars waiting to buy a ticket and cut in line right before the ticket booth?

  18. I've been told by the workers at the Kingston ferry that you can ride the local lanes and get in the front of the line to buy your ticket, bypassing the wait. It varies by ferry though, I don't think there is any bypass for the downtown Seattle ferries.

  19. I love me some I90 tunnel action. Get it right up around 7k or so.... as good as a blow job.

With a few exceptions, this is true. The biggest ones I know of are the Oyster Run and the VME meet on Vashon. With those they make you sit in with regular traffic.
