Ethanol Free fuel

    Premium fuel, no ethanol blend, available at Don Small & Sons Fuel Farm CFN cardlock in Auburn. I think the Harley likes it.

    Dave's Palisades Service across from Lamb's Thriftway in Lake Oswego on McVey Ave (across from the 76) apparently now has ethanol free premium at a pretty good price too.

    From what I've gathered over the years of driving a modified turbocharged vehicle...

    Ethanol-free gas provides a slightly higher octane rating since it's not "watered down" with ethanol, slightly increased fuel economy and produces more power per unit. Basically your bike will run slightly better and cooler.

    Gas with ethanol produces slightly cleaner emissions at a cost of lower fuel economy, cheaper price but is also somewhat corrosive to certain metals and rubbers. It absorbs water and dirt very easily though so must be filtered well. Gas with high concentrations of ethanol has a much higher detonation limit and therefor a tuner can run higher boost levels and more timing on this type of fuel.

    So forced induction vehicles want to run the E10 (and soon E15) blended fuels?

    There must be a PSI where E10 becomes better...I would imagine its in the 20+PSI range...Normal 8-12 PSI probably still benefits more from ethanol free...

    Ideas?

    free iphone app to ethanol free stations, also my CFN app has a list.
    picked up 4.5 mpg in my car and another 10 miles fuel range in my bike.
    Runs better imho

    E85 is what you want for high horse power forced induction applications. That stuff has an octane of about 105 and you burn more of it per volume of air because the ideal ratio is more like 9.7:1 vs gasolines 14.7:1.

    But all of this requires supporting mods to include HUGE fuel injectors.

    I run Trick 101 octane from 76 station on Auburn way .. with no problems.

    ethanol leads to higher moisture content (water) suspended in the fuel, leads to more corosion / rust in the tank / pump / etc...

    also not compatible with older fuel lines (they look like frosted flakes on the inside after a year or two of being exposed to the alky fuels)

    breaks down / "goes bad" quicker than non-ethanol fuels do

    etc...

    Alky does love boost though... runs cool, resist det, more power (about 30% over gas, but yer burning like 50% more to do it...)

    I use ACME Fast Fuel in Olympia. They have Premium Ethanol Free at their Lilly Rd facility and Mid-Grade Ethanol Free at their downtown facility.

    ...and I agree with the diesel comment.
