Well, we are going to do a coastal run tomorrow. We'll be taking the interesting back roads to Seaside. Route is not set in stone, so we might take some interesting side roads here or there, but we'll be heading ultimately to Seaside for lunch then back.

Rumor has it that a certain aspiring communist, may be joining us on this ride. He's got some brand new BT-016's that he wants to break in.

Link Up:St. John's Starbucks on Lombard St. in N. Portland

KSU: 9:00 - This will be approximately a 6+ hour ride. We are shooting for a return to the PDX\Vancouver area before 4:00 PM.

Pace: Moderately spirited. This will be a 'Pace' ride; mellow in the open country and the straights, fast in the twistys.

Watch out for those BT016's, they don't always like to hold on to the road :scared

Today was a blast, good people, great roads & yummy food. But if that was a "Moderately Spirited" pace, I'd be afraid to see what passes for spirited riding around here. :scared

You know those little plastic flip down child seats in shopping carts? Yeah well, if you see one of those ground down...

You'll know Galen's been on a spirited run through the grocery store.

That was a good shakedown ride... for me and my bike. I knocked the dust off my gear, cleared the cobwebs from my head, broke in a set of tires and put my VFR on the road for her first ride!

Great ride yesterday. The good roads and good people to hang out with. The Scotch Egg at that new brew pub was excellent; I highly recommend it to all.

Thought I'd include the Route we took, in case anyone is looking to get out this week end.

We took Skyline down to Rocky Point Rd and then on down to HWY 30. Took Scapp-Vern HWY to HWY 47 and followed it all the way to Clatskanie. Back tracked to the 47/202 intersection and took 202 to Youngs River Rd. From Youngs River Road, we took the back roads into Seaside. Had lunch at a new brew pub in Seaside (corner of Broadway and 101).

After lunch, we were going to try to make a HWY 53 run, but at the last minute we decided against it as we were originally aiming to get back to the PDX area by around 4:00. We realized it wasn't going to happen if we included 53, so we continued down HWY 26 to HWY 103 and took it back up to 202. Matt and Jen stopped off in Birkenfeld to say hi to Sam, and the rest of us continued back down 202/47. We ended up heading down Apiary Rd and then took Meissner Rd down to 30. From there we slabbed it back home.

    Germantown - Skyline - 30 - Scapp-Vern Hwy - 47 to Clatskanie - 47 back to 202 - 202 - Youngs river Rd - Tucker Ln/Logan Rd/Lewis & Clark Rd - 26 - 103 - 202 - 47 - Apiary Rd - Meissner Rd - Cannan Rd - back on 30

There have been a lot of reports about how bad the roads are out this way, but we were pleasantly surprised at how nice they actually were. This is not to say that all of the roads are pristine, but that the worst of the worst has been fixed, especially on HWY 202. The construction on Youngs River Road has been completed and it now has beautiful pristine pavement (actual asphalt). It was a shame that some one took their pet elephant Rufus out for a walk and didn't clean up after them.

About the only real negatives that we encountered was the bicycling event that was taking place on the same roads were were traveling on, and the damn deer that jumped onto the road (just missing Dave, and luckily getting out of my way by the time I got there). Other than those issues, it was a great day.

Yes, there were lots of bicycles out that day. We also got stuck behind some slower cars that seemed oblivious to their legal obligation to allow us by.

    Great run, though. :)
