Help, car broke

Discussion in 'Mechanical & Technical' started by bluerose, Nov 27, 2012.

  1. So I was trying to turn left at a light in first gear (manual transmission civic 97) when I heard a thunk and was no longer moving forward. I am thinking transmission issue? The car is in Redmond just off Avondale and I need some recommendation for a tow truck and where to take it. I'm kind of frustrated as I just spent $900 on tires and alignment (alignment was way off, took a kit to get it near right) Any advice is appreciated!

  2. will the engine still run? did u try and put it back in gear? or try second so see if first might of gone out but still have second? or reverse. once and a while i will have that happen and its popping out of gear since i didnt engage it all the way. as for tow company grab a phone book or look it up most will be fine just make sure if u have it lowered to ask for a flat bed truck or the reg one will have the rear of the car scrapping..

  3. Would move in any gear, I tried them all. The engine runs, Im thinking transmission or CV joint? It is not lowered, its stock, I know no one drives a stock civic :p Also found out I have Good Sam towing so that helps.

CV joint most likely popped. Cheap parts but expensive labor. Good luck! If you were closer I could help....only takes a couple hours to do one.

  5. I appreciate the thought, I wish I knew how to fix one but last time I had the opportunity my dad said no (91 Subaru Legacy when I was 16) and now in an apartment I don't have the space to take anything apart. Someday I will own a home with an awesome garage....

  7. Yea, what he said!

The CV probably popped out of the transmission. Not uncommon with Honda. Generally you can pop them back in to get you moving but it most likely wont stay there.

Relatively close to where your ride is. And he may or may not work there depending on what the rules of giving out somewhat personal information are on this forum.

  9. I'll give them a call thanks!

  11. I do recommend Cascade auto clinic. For anyone who was curious the axel popped out, no reason.

    Oh, there's a reason...

    It's a Civic.

  13. I like my civic :p its cheaper to fix than many other cars and fits in small parking spaces, though I would rather be on my bike any day....

  14. axles just dont pop out. there had to be a reason like something else broke and let it slip out.

There is a small clip on the end of the axle. They get worn out and the axle pops out. If it pops out again you will need a new clip. Looks really similar to a car key ring.

  16. Axel was replaced last February
