So... Twisted Throttle reached out to me asking for the pictures I took of their BMW R1200 GS and BMW S1000RR at this year's International Motorcycle Show. They offered to send me a complimentary swag bag full of goodies, and I politely declined and instead asked that it be given back to our PNW Riders community. So here's the deal... we officially have a contest which is going on from now until the end of the year, and here's what you need to do to win a very cool prize package:

Here's the premise of this contest:

If you could go anywhere in the world on any motorcycle:
    • What bike would you choose?
    • Where would you go?
    • Why would you do it?

This contest is for any motorcycle rider, no matter what you ride today or may ride one day, no matter your experience today or how experienced you may be one day... think and dream big here. Be genuine about your thoughts, and if money was no object, and you could go anywhere in the world on any motorcycle, what bike would you choose, where would you go, and why would you do it?

To Enter: Simply write up your response and post it in this thread.

    Winner will receive:

Special thanks to Twisted Throttle, check out their website or like them on Facebook.

Contest goes from now until I close the thread sometime towards the end of January 1, 2012.

Because that would be freaking amazing. Taking a sweet bike on a long awesome track that few this side of the pond have the opportunity to ride.

    Bike: KTM 660 Rally Edition x 2

    Where: Australia

Why: I want to ride around the continent. Australia has always been a place I've wanted to go. If I won the lottery, that would be the first place I'd visit. The reef, the wildlife, the cities, the desert, the whole place. What better way to see it then on two wheels, taking my time, stopping whenever and wherever I want. Don't need roads, just some gas and air conditioned riding gear lol.

I'd take the KTM 660 because it's been proven time and time again in the Dakar Rally and the Australian Safari, and would be right at home. Options and aftermarket abound, and there might even be room for my wife on the back. Preferably she would have her own bike, but ya can't have everything.

That is the ultimate wish list.

    I know I can't win but....

    • The Bike: KTM 990 Adventure with luggage and crash protection
    • Second Choice Bike: Honda CB500 Four with luggage. Smallish easy to maintain, parts are mostly available anywhere in the world. Huge gas mileage.
    • The Destination: The world
    • Why: A motorcycle in far off lands is a great way to meet people and see things on a more intimate level. There is so much out there to see and experience. My own little corner of the world has a very narrow view of the extreme diversity out there. Also, it would be challenging

    What bike would you choose?

I would go on the trip on my 2011 Kawasaki Versys, with all the necessary crash protection (on order from twisted throttle right now), and luggage... My trip, My own bike, the first bike I really am proud of.

    Where would you go?

I would probably go and explore Europe, see all of the countries and highways with my girlfriend Heather on the back.

    Why would you do it?

The reason is simple, I have not done any traveling before and have spent pretty much my whole my life in the PNW. My exploitative nature really wants me to go to other countries and experience other cultures and meet new people along the way. My mom told me about how she explored Europe when she was young, and she really loved it. I would go all over and see everything the world has to offer, from the bustling capitals to the snow-capped peaks of the Alps.

That would be my trip, I would love to get out and try something truly new for me.

The bike(s): adventure bikes, setup for touring. Money is no issue? BMW F800GS, no question.
The Destination: As far Northwest, Southwest, Southeast, and Northeast as possible in this country. Neah Bay, San Diego, Miami, New Canada (Maine).
Why: Well, to tell you why, I have you tell you who the other bike is for. My dad. Before he's too old to do this sort of thing, an adventure like this would be a great story for my kids and grandkids. Why just the US? Hell, why not? That's enough to wear out a bike! Especially once we take the back roads, stop at breweries, spend time camping, hiking, fishing, visiting museums, and seeing the entire country.

    The Bike:

BMW1200 GS (that looks like a blast to ride)!

    Destination:

West Coast of Italy, and ride around Sardinia ending in La Maddalena.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Maddalena

    Why:

Lived in La Maddalena for 2 years and absolutely love it! Didn't get to see much of Italy other than that little Island. My girl is Italian and has never seen Italy and I'd love to show her the countryside.

I love this thread... I was just thinking about this very topic after visiting the IMS over the weekend.

    • What bike would you choose?
BMW R1200GS Adventure with Twisted Throttle accessories of course (ok so maybe not very unique, but I dream about this bike)
    • Where would you go?
Seattle to Prudhoe bay (Deadhorse actually)
    • Why would you do it?
Because it's the next big step on my motorcycle love affair. I've never done any long distance excursions and my CBR isn't the right bike for the task. Taking the Dalton Hwy to Deadhorse would be my first test and learning experience for this sort of thing. How to pack, what to pack, how to maximize dexterity and efficiency in covering long distances. More importantly, it would give me a chance to see such an epic part of the world with varying landscapes and terrain. Beyond the literal motorcycle experience, it would be a LIFE experience. This would be the first step. Goals beyond that would involve other countries... South America and Western Europe come to mind first.

Ok, ok, I see what you did there... Doug was an AWESOME guy to talk to. I BS'ed with him for a long time until my girlfriend drug me away. That's the kind of guy that has more life experience from motorcycle adventuring than most people will get in a lifetime. Bought his shirt too 8)

What bike would you choose? 2011 KTM 450 SMR

Where would you go? To every Super Moto race track across the globe :mfclap:

Why would you do it? Because it is something that most would not think of doing and I would gain tons of knowledge from all the different racers and tracks and make me a better rider/racer :mfclap:

I can tell you my current "before I hit 30" goal is to get a V-Strom with some hard bags and ride it to Alaska. Why? Because when I was a kid my dad moved there and use to tell me how completely mind blowing the state is. He passed away before I ever got to visit him, I'd love to ride through the state and see what he was talking about.

As far as a goal that is currently so expensive it's unobtainable even in the next 10 years; A GS1200 would be a fantastic machine to ride across Asia. I don't know enough about the continent to be able to plan a route, but the cultures seem like something I would enjoy experiencing.
