JB Weld or Tig-Weld

Discussion in 'Medford Region' started by Ordrock, Aug 24, 2012.

  1. The kid next door didn't do any tinkering at all on his 2005 Virago 250, and he paid for it. The chain grew too big and came off slammed against the fragile engine case. When this happened it broke the metal around a bolt that keeps the clutch lever thats connected to the clutch cable that operates the push rod. This little bolt is in a place where a welder will have a tough time repairing.

So if this boy can't weld it back, do you thing that JB weld will do the trick. There wont be any real tourqe, all this bolt seems to do is work as a keeper, to keep the shaft from raising out of the hole.

He doesn't get any help from his Dad, and he's fixin to head back to Portland for school.

    Thanks for the help.
  2. I am having a hard time understanding what this bolt does...

Is it one of many bolts that hold on the cover (which has the clutch lever on)?

Or is it "the" bolt that holds the clutch arm to the cover?

Picture is worth a thousand words in this situation.

Random advice is, if money is an issue and looks is not then JB weld is a no brainer. To use JB weld efficiently use a ziplock sandwich back to mix it in then snip one corner to squeeze out the mixed product.

  3. JB will work. Just make sure both ends are clean and free of oil. Let cure 24hrs.
  4. JB weld will usually require dynamite to get it off. The computer chair I am sitting on right now was fixed with it yesterday and I weigh 230lbs. As the previous post said, you have to let it cure a full 24hrs. Probably will fix it.
  5. did Avbod change his screen name?.......:stir:
  6. Its the bolt that keeps the clutch push rod lever from lifting from the case. I can't for the life of me attach a picture, haven't been able to figure it out.

I think I'll tell the boy about the JB Weld.
