My "new" wing

Discussion in 'Projects' started by Bmwridr05, Dec 30, 2011.

  1. 1975 GL 1000 with 7,300 original miles. I picked it up today from a local collector. Man, his shop was filled with some beautiful machinery.

This was never restored, and ridden yearly so it does show its age some. Have the stock seat for it too.

Just going to clean her up a bit, replace some hoses and tires, then ride the beast across country.

I was working at 'TriCity Honda' when those hit the market.
    Talk about a 'game changer'!
Make sure it has the 'Drive shaft spline lube mod. done'.
    Enjoy your 'Classic Wing'!

    I will second that.

How is the clutch? Those GL 1000s originally had the same clutches as the 750s did, and it was definitely a weak spot. Between the weight of the bike and the tall gearing the clutch took a lot of abuse.

Good score. I had a '76, and regret to this day letting it go. :angry7:

Very sweet Kevin!! That sucker looks to be in awesome condition!

  9. Low maintenance shaft drive, and freight train torque. When they came out, they were intended to be the next superbike, not touring.

Although I do like my 84 Aspencade, and don't be fooled, they can rail.

    Grats on a sweet find!!!

  10. nice early ride there; i like those "simple" models; not like drivinga house.

  11. LOVE the old 'wings. Please don't hack it, I've been reading about more and more old wings (NICE ones at that) being hacked in the name of "custom".

    Lovely bike

  12. No hacking here, its going to stay looking like that. Soft bags, and a simple nationalcycle shield for touring mode.

  13. I enjoyed seeing the bike yesterday Kevin. A great find for sure.

You just need to hack it now.

  14. Nice bmwridr05 :clap ; how n where did you find this gem?
