Got my bike in Aug... Put 2k on her Runs including WRR Johnson Ridge by way of squirrel roads to the lookout Windy Ridge and some to the look out Klik Next year I wanna get to the coast, more into Oregon (the lookout overlooking the River) and more Klik... Where did you go?
Not near as many roads, or places, as I wanted to. I was going to post a few map/route links but, since Google maps changed their format, I have not yet figured out how to do it. .
Just over 6k miles in four months of ownership. Down to Sacramento once through 299 and 36. We did 1900 miles in one long weekend... through klamath falls, winemucca, elko Idaho, around boise, back through chrismas vallay, past crater lake, and home on 199. A lot of day trips to medford from where we live on the coast. Hope to do an iron butt in the spring.
One of my favorite "Going Coastal" routes. There are other good roads out this way, but this is my favorite to the Oregon north coast. The traffic is generally very light, especially once you hit 47 and 202. The road conditions on Scap/Vern and 202 are less than ideal in places, one of the reasons that car traffic is so light, but improvements have been made to various sections every season. Edit: FeralRdr can show you some of the roads we took out east this year. Hit him up. Edit #2 I changed the map a little. The very squiggly road near laws creek is definitely single lane, and I am not sure if it is paved all the way. .
Sadly, like Dave, I didn't get out much this Spring/Summer and just mostly did the usual commuting. I spent all my travel $$$ on suspension work on both bikes and just didn't have funds for long distance trips this year. Also working on the house took up a lot of time/funds. However, I finally got up to Windy Ridge a couple weeks ago and yesterday did a fantastic dual-sport ride over to Detroit and back via Mollala and back parallel to FR46.
The Klik run. For some reason, I couldn't get that small piece of Old HWY 8 to stick. There are other options to get out there, of course. .
The Cougar-Carson run Regarding the alternate routes between Battle ground and Yacolt; I usually take Garner road. I am not sure why I haven't tried Mystic yet, but my guess is that it is either very narrow or possibly unpaved. Anyone out there been on it? Edit: That's all for now. I need to get to work.
Galenpalooza Highlights: HWY 218 (Fossil) County Rd 20 (HWY 395 North of Long Creek to Bates). FS-39 (Wallowa National Forest/Hells Canyon Overlook) HWY 244 (Lagrande to Ukiah)
I want to get to Detroit Lake sometime. When I first started riding and lived in Salem Detroit Lake was my fav ride...love that area
I was going to map the Old McKenzie Pass run (which routes us through Detroit Lake), but since Clackamas River Road is currently closed, Google Maps won't let me plot the route we normally take down to that area.
Running up Santiam Pass brings back some good memories as well. Born and raised in Salem - Sadly started riding big Boy Street Bikes AFTER I moved away - Still, made that DRIVE many times in a cage. Just wish I was closer so that I could RIDE it.
i finally hit klickitat the 1st time this summer. Unfortunately it was right when they were laying bbq sauce and very thick loose gravel. Took me a couple hours to get that crap off w/ lighter fluid. Detroit lake is fun. I like the parts after Estacada and the long downhill hugging the lake, just before the ranger station and just before detroit lake...the rest is higher speed cruising...yer GSXR will love it.
Sequoia natl park windy ridge (corner up there claimed the old VFR) Mt. Rainier fossil run cougar/carson/klikitat Mary hill loops rd with fossil run back old spiral hwy in ID, down to rattlesnake grade, etc.. through OR Run down detroit to aufderheide, to crater lake
I rode about 8,000 miles since January, zero commuting, all recreational rides. Each month from April through October, I took at least a 2, if not 3 day trip, in addition to many 300+ mile single day rides somewhere to grab lunch in Wa or Or, usually Yakima or Astoria. I took several trips up to Okanogan area, Nespelem, Inchelium, Keller, Grand Coulee. Several trips down Oregon Coast through Clatskanie, Mist, Timber Tilamook, Hebo, Valley Junction, Siletz etc. As well as the usual ride through Woodland, Cougar, Curley Creek, and Klickitat, Goldendale, Bickleton, Mabton then back over White Pass. Vacation days well spent!
Last week I just finished a 3830 mile, 16 day (12 riding) trip to Southern California. I started on Sept 22, heading east to John Day to avoid the rain that was coming, and then headed south to San Francisco where I met my daughter. She and I rode our bikes down hwy 1 to San Luis Obispo and then back via roads between hwy 1 and 101. Then I went south on 101 to Atascadero and over hwy 58 to Tehachapi to visit an old friend. Next was over Cajon pass to Riverside to meet wife who had flown in and to stay with another daughter. I left Riverside and rode up hwy 395 to hwy 89 and Lake Tahoe, then took hwy 36 towards the coast. Rode 36, 3, and 299 (great m/c roads) and then 101 back through Oregon to hwy 53, 26, Vernonia, Longview and home. Bike (06 Ninja 650) now has 111,000 miles on it.
Wow..some great rides..I am excited for next "season". I did a Crater Lake run years ago with the Southcoast Sportbikers...It was a two day campout at some persons property down that way. Was a great time and great views. Still have pics of the ride someone in a box.
South. Spent a week in Gold Hill Oregon seeing the sights. Crater Lake, the Redwoods, drive through tree. Big ass tree! And some ocean..... and some hideous saddlebags!
Green Mtn Road This is a fun little stretch, and a nice way to head north while staying off the freeway. Just keep in mind that people have been building more housing up there over the years. be polite and watch for the driveways. .
