Like the title says, I'm gonna need to replace the rear dirt tire on my SMC625 before long. I'd like to give a trials tire a whirl, but am a bit nervous to take the plunge.

I'll be using the tire locally riding to and from trails and riding some not so gnarly trails. I also plan on using this tire for odessa this spring. Thoughts? am i being dumb? should i just stick to the dunlop 606's that i know?

Check this out. It is a little dated but has good info. I plan on trying one on my 450exc also once my DOT knobby wears out.

I think Pete usese that tire on his DS and I used it on my Yamaha WR with good results. But the trials tires are best in wet rocks, roots, and generally nasty terrain, so I'm curious why you are looking at them? I've seen people run trials tires at the Desert 100, but again I fail to see the benefit. I can ride out on a flat nobby tire, the only flat I've had on a trials tire left me dead in the water.

The MT43 is the only trials tire that can be ridden on flat from what I hear because it has a much stiffer carcas than most. I haven't gotten a flat, but I really like the one I was running. I ran it on my XR650R and on my CRF450R. It grips very well in most conditions, the one draw back being muddy downhills. It also wears amazingly!! Easily lasts twice as long as any knobbie I've ever used and the grip holds up as it wears. It has a little strange feeling on high speed gravel, but nothing too bad. I ran it on my 450 at the D100 poker run and it was great in the sand, much to my surprise! It is also much smoother on pavement than any knobby. I would recommend it and I have a new one to go on my Christini, I might even run them front and back.
