Ride to Crater Lake on Sunday?

  1. I was thinking of taking a ride up to Crater Lake on Sunday. Hwy 138's new pavement looked really sweet last weekend and should be finished by this weekend. Nice and smooth. The weather is supposed to be nice, too. $5 to get in to take a ride around the rim & see the sights. Anyone want to go?

  2. I'd go up but I'm waiting on some parts for my bike. Should be great weather for a ride up there.

  3. If you could wait till around 1:00 to leave, I'd be in. I've missed church too many weekends in a row, and really must show up. Otherwise those silly rumors of me leaving my husband will start up again. Absolute rubbish. If I were to leave my hubby, how would I pay for the fuel for my bike. Geesh, some folks have no idea about priorities!

Seriously though, if you can't wait that long to get started, that's ok, I totally understand.

  4. I was thinking a little earlier, but ksu @ 1 would give about 3 hours at Crater. I'd rather not have to ride back in the dark. Hwy 138 at night doesn't sound fun to me... ya' know, dodging the wildlife and all.

  5. Then where at and I'll be there. Chevron on Diamond Lake? Dutch Bros?

  6. Dutch Bros sounds like a winner. I might even have to go a little early and get me a cup of caffeinated goodness.

  7. Yeah, and a granola bar, which maybe my lunch. : )

  8. Dutch Bros ksu @ 1?
I may be able to make it.

  9. Cool. The more, the merrier.

  10. We went, we saw, we nearly froze ourselves like icecubes. Possible video to be posted later.

  11. It was a beautiful day for the trip. Thanks to gfeero for puting up with me not knowing my way around the lake.

  12. Ok, but what about all the excitement? I was on my way home from the wine drinking, music listening, bike show looking at UCC & spotted someone I know on a big silver thing and was gonna stop by & say howdy when suddenly there were ambulances, fire trucks, cops & cetera all over the place! So what happened?

  13. For the sake of modesty, I'll let that person explain it. Jim, thought you were going to join us for Crater Lake, though. Then you disappeared. Otherwise, I would have said "Howdy too." Was a little preoccupied at the moment. Have lot's of video that needs to be cut down. Without any crashes or near misses, it's a tad boring. However, it is proof that we were there. Though looks like an excellent pic has already been posted. : ) So, at least we have proof that it happened.

  14. I would have liked to gone but due to the late start, I would have had to traverse deer territory during their rush hour, on my way home (hwy 62 to Tiller Trail hwy to C' Ville & home). An earlier start & I would have been there.

  15. Earlier start would have meant that I couldn't be there. Guess you go when you can go and don't worry about the stuff you miss.

  16. exactly, which is why I went to the UCC thing instead.

  17. As I turned left onto Diamond Lake Blvd. from Stephens I hit fine gravel (with out any warning or caution) while I was making the turn I felt the bike lose traction and start sliding wide. I tried to stear into the slide but it didn't help and I low sided instantly very hard.I roiled foreword and to the left side and hit the helmet chin bar to the pavement and then the left side of the visor. I jammed my femur bone up into the hip socket and cracked his pelvic bone in several places. This required surgery which took 5 hours and during it the surgeon nicked a vein. A vascular surgeon was called in to repair it. I am thankful I was in River Bend Hospital where there are many surgeons on staff and one was right there. I required 4 pints of blood from the bleeding. I was in River Bend for 6 days and Rose Haven Rest Home for another 10. I am home now. I'm able to sleep in my Lazy Boy in our family room. I can get myself around the house with a walker to use the rest room and back into the master bed room to use the shower with the waker. I'm not in a cast and they stapled my incisions closed. I have an incision across my lower bellie and one on my left side. I still have lots of pain moving anything on my lift side. I cant put anymore than 35lbs. pressure down on the lift side and very limited in what I can do so far. So physical therapy is rough and will be for weeks to come. My bike was totaled although it appeared to not be severely damaged in the pictures. I'm fairly comfortable when I'm not moving around. I'm just giong to have to be patient and work with the therapy to get better. I can't rush it. My Scorpion helmet, my jacket, my Dragon Jeans, my gloves and bootsall did their jobs excelently.:eek:ccasion:

  18. Thanks for the detailed report. Lots of food for thought there.

  19. I don't normally say this, but lawyer up. I stopped at that same intersection the following Tues. westbound, and as I put my foot down it slipped like I was parked on sand at the beach. I don't know how I managed to stay upright. Whatever was used as material for the chip seal is not motorcycle safe at all. Even that morning, someone else crashed. That was what the guy with the car dealership told us.

  20. Glad to know you are at home and recovering. My husband's aunt is at Rose Haven, if I'd known you were there, I'd have swung by and said, "Hi."
