Sportbike Bobber?

    Hey I was thinking of making an old school bobber bike but with newer sport bike suspension and engine. I was wondering what the PNW community thinks of something like that. I know it will not be easy and very time consuming, but I think this could be something very unique to own. I was thing of this style but with a dropped seat and gsxr 1000 suspension and motor. What are your thoughts?? Thanks

    Local friend of mine did a Bobber R6, he said it was great but got rid of it soon after making that statement.

    I think it looks pretty awesome, but if you wait a year this thing will be out and i guess you can order it from the factory with any number of variations on the basic frame. Allegedly not even gonna be that expensive (for a bimmer)

    Not sure how 'bobber' it would be and still use a rear suspension...

    In the truist sense of the word "Bobber" is using the stock frame and geometry of the donor bike. The dont necessarily have to be a rigid rear suspension. The weight reduction of taking everything off of a sport bike, and thinning it down is more in line with the naked street bikes, or possibly the Cafe. It will be interesting to see what you come up with. Its your bike, make it your own style.

    I have a Rebel 450 that is in the works. Shed 45 lbs off of it, pumped the motor, new highside scrambler exhaust, peanut tank, and a trailer fender for the rear; pogo leather seat too. Pics as the build happens. It is essentially the bike that got me into all my trouble in High School. It is NOT for sale.

    One of the Yoshimura Suzuki race mechanics made one a couple of years back. I think that he made a custom hardtail frame, but everything else was straight off of the bike (wheels, engine, forks). Pretty sharp, very simple and utilitarian.

    I like it. The whole idea is that it is a custom. No one would expect you to take it to a track day or rail around with your sportbike buddies on the twisties that you might normally ride. I appreciate the work that goes into unique customs and the exclusivity and uniqueness that results. Like Yamaha used to say back in the 60's, "Different strokes for different folks."

    Well I guess we will see how it turns out. I'm planning on picking up an 01 gsxr 1000 project bike in a couple of weeks and a 70's style bobber frame for a base. I guess we will see how it goes. I love all motorcycles, sport bikes being my favorite, but there is something about the 70's bobber that has always caught my eye. So why not combine the two I'm sure it won't be for everyone, but if people didn't try new things, we would all still be on Roper's steam cycle.
