Thinking about making that cross country bike ride.

  1. So I have decided after my deployment I am going to buy a new bike and after some getting used to it, take it on a trip cross country.

    As of now the route goes from the NW > SOCAL > GA > NE > and reverse.

    I just cant decide which bike I want to do to this with. I have decided on a Harley Fat Bob or Blackline, Ive sat on both and both feel comfortable. But I thought maybe some who have done this before would have better insight and maybe some tips to help.

  5. The one difference I can tell you between the Fat Bob and the Blackline that I know is the difference between having a big or skinny front tire. The larger front tire on the Fat Bob will track a little better and give less road vibration over long days than the skinny tire on the Blackline. Although to some this opinion on the feedback and handling differences between the two is minor, but it was something that I noticed putting in time behing both handlebars.

    Why not the Road King?
    I've a buddy that went to from Portland to Key West, 2-up, on his Road King & loved it.

    For the money, maybe a metric cruiser?

  7. Hi There.

    The Fat Bob is based on the dyna platform and the thin line is on the softail. Both are good bikes and all, but for the length of the ride you are planing the touring line is a far better choice.
    Your going to need room to store stuff, the dyna is the smallest of the big twins, so you you may find your cramped up on space. The softail line can do long cruises, in a Heritage or a Fat boy, but the thin line is lowered, so less suspension travel, read this I.E. they ride rough.
    The Road King looks like a bike you are asking about, the wind shield can be removed if you wish. The longer wheelbase will let you stretch out and have the room for all your gear, the air ride suspension will smooth out the road while giving you the best handling Harley currently being made.

    In the long run, it will be the best choice.

    And if you need help with a good price, I have a friend that owns a Harley dealership and yes, they are in the military sales program.
