I decided to go to Vashon today for a ride.

Got to the ferry and met a couple of nice blokes, one on an 848 and the other on an old cafe'd Honda standard.

How cool - I'll have someone to ride with.

Then the Honda's buds turned up - all five million of them .....

They were all there for the Cretins MC Anniversary ride.

It was great riding out of the ferry in that sea of bikes, an honor even - as there were some seriously cool bikes in the crowd.

I had a nice ride for an hour or so around the island - had no idea where I was half the time but found a few nice little twisty stretches and then headed home.

Met a nice Harley Sportster riding lady on the ferry home - she suggested Chuckanut Drive for my next ride.. Think I'll do that tomorrow.

A few of the nifty bikes...

  2. That's funny. I was there for the ride and was wondering if anybody was there by coincidence. Chukanut drive is good. Go through the valley up through Laconer to get there.

I was the bloke in the grey Aerostich on the red Multistrada, ruining all the group photos with my shiny modern bike.

I thought it was a bit of a coincidence myself. But amazing and inevitable too in a weird way. I'm from the UK myself and grew up seeing most of those bikes around the streets. My first bike was an RD250 and I often think I might like to have another some day. Saturday inspired me in many ways because I saw real enthusiasts who owned and used real bikes, not necessarily museum pieces or perfectly restored showroom examples. It put me back in mind of when I started out - the bike didn't have to be perfect or even nice looking, it just had to be mechanically sound, and scare old ladies.

BTW - I did not make it out today... I see La Conner on the map, but cannot see how I would work it into a route to Chuckanut Drive from Seattle? Any ideas, also what is the draw? Hoping to make it out next weekend if the weather holds.
    Cheers.

It's the annual VME (Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts) on Vashon sometime in September.
You can join up for about $20 a year and they have meetings year round-ish.

A lot of nice examples and a lot of SOBs and snotters to make you smile.
