Where is the best chinese food in Spokane?

Discussion in 'Eastside' started by beansbaxter, Dec 29, 2005.

  1. I've been to a lot of places and after today's outing with snake, I want to know where you can get good chinese food? From buffets to ordering dishes, it all sucks!

We went to a spot in Seattle that was dang good, where are these places in Spokane?
  2. China Dragon Near Northtown Mall, tons of food and F A S T !

  3. Kolat

Was a joke, if you don't get it then you hav'nt been to hillyard :)

  6. Tough to keep up with a place as big as Seattle. Here are my humble recommendations...

Best Chinese restaurant in the area... Gordy's Sitchuan Cafe (501 E. 30th Ave). This place is amazing. Sometimes hard to get into

Second best Chinese restaurant... China Best (226 W. Riverside Ave). This place isn't the best but it's fantastic and almost never any waiting.

Compared to these -every other Chinese restaurant in town is just serving paste.

If you're feeling adventurous, try Vietnamese... Vien Dong (1730 E. Sprague Ave). Really cheap good stuff and the sandwiches are very surprisingly good.

    Bon appetite,
  7. Hey, if they're not serving deep fried bees or crickets, it ain't authentic. Oh, if it is authentic, it's pretty frightening. I like Chinese food in the US prepared by Chinese ex-pats better than the Chinese food served in China or Taiwan by the locals.

I'd give my take on the Spokavegas Chinese food situation, but it's been something like 15 years since I've been there. All the places I used to haunt probably got busted by the DEA or ATF by now. I think the dives on Division were fronts for heroin operations and the the holes in the wall on Sprague would serve liquor to minors.

Here's a snap of a deep fried cricket for your culinary pleasure. BTW, they're about as big as your thumb and the legs get stuck in your throat like a fish bone if you don't chew them up real good, or so I've heard. I chickened out and did not partake.

Here's a shot of something I did eat - deep fried bee. It tasted like a finger steak without the steak. The breading was seasoned with a bucket of salt and 5-spice although they don't call it 5-spice. The bee part was crunchy and I don't think they pulled the stinger. Hell, they don't shell the shrimp, why would they bother with a little bitty stinger.

  8. Try the Kitty house, they serve hot cat One hundred and one differant ways, am just kidding, peace

I work at Peking North and we have some damn good food! We have even been in the paper for a taste test comparison and were ranked number one! And I swear that I am not just biased because I work there.....

Unfortunately, Beans has a problem with Peking North. Well, he didn't like the buffet.

However, since he has a problem with nearly every restuarant in town, it doesn't mean much.
  11. I like Gordys it is a good place, but I know they put MSG in their dishes… We like to go to have Vietnamese at Kim Do (the Pho soup is my favorite), we also like to go to Sala Tai in Airway heights (I think is one of the best Tai in Spokane), also, we recently try a Japanese/Corean restaurant in Airway Heights… it is good but the guy that does all the sushi is cool, Charley is really funny…
But like Darrel (Snake) said… Daniel has a problem with nearly every restaurant in town...
  12. snake and I were at Peking North (the one you work at) yesterday for lunch and no offense, but the food was absolutely horrible. A gentleman was standing at the foyer as we were leaving and we told him how bad it was, and he said a couple had just left saying the same thing to him. Maybe it was just that one time, but it was so bad - it prompted me to start this thread because I had heard this place was good so I was saddened at how bad the food quality really was.

I"m truly sorry to hear that Beans. If it was the buffet that might be understandable because our kitchen dishes are way better than the BBQ. So if you ever want to try it again let me know and I will make sure that you are taken of. If it is a Mongo BBQ you're looking for I recommend HuHot in the Valley over any of the Moon's in town. Plus a couple of hole in the wall sushi places that are to die for!
  14. Got to go with China Dragon as the best. Second best would be China South.
  15. are there and good sushi here?? everyone i've seen sucked!!!
i got spoiled in reno,nv... the city has fresh fish flown in daily for the casinos.. so always fresh .. and large rolls.. could get a $15 all you can eat and you might be able to eat 4 or 5 rolls.. the ones here are child size rolls.. :rant

Skibum, are you back in town?

The only place that I have eaten sushi here was the one in Airway Heights. You have to check it out and tell me what you think because I am a bit of a beginner with sushi.

The day to go is Thursday after 6:30 because that is when Charlie (owner) gets back from Seattle with the fresh fish.

The location is in the middle of Airway Heights on the right side of Highway 2. The sign says something about Japanese and Korean food. Let me know if you want to meet there sometime.

I would be interested in tagging along because I have never had the sushi there...........

It's funny that China Dragon is owned by relatives of where I work at Peking North!

You are welcome to come along.

However, we usually go last minute on our way home from work, but if we decide in advance I will try to get a hold of you.

Skibum, do you want to go or what?
  19. I like sushi but I don't LIKE it. I've heard that the sushi at Takara in Coeur d'Alene is good.
