Why are there so few KTM dealerships?

It occurred to me today that there are very few KTM dealerships serving the greater population here in Seattle, with only one dealership up north. The next closest one is in TriCities.

Is there a reason for this? With all the positive surrounding KTM, I am shocked there are not more KTM dealerships, especially in the surrounding Seattle region.

I would guess it's just down to volume of sales. If there was more demand there'd be more Dealers. I'm sure they only sell a handful of KTM's compared to the volume of Honda's and Suzuki's.

  3. what about duc dealerships? how many of those around?

seems like they are just the upper end bikes, like he said, not as common and more expensive

  6. KTM is an awesome company that came a long way. Back in the early 90's if you bought a KTM it was like the hyundai of bikes. Now its the one of the top bikes. I forget where they come from, but I like what they're doing with the redbull rookies cup. Shows they wanna be involved. I just wish they had the money for a 800cc ride.

Cant you get KTM's in renton?

  7. Actually, KTM is a lot like Ducati, BMW, Aprilia, MV, etc......
KTM is very picky about the amount of dealerships that are with in range of each other. They have an issue with dealerships in heavy competition to one another.
Also, KTM doesn not have a high production level. That has nothing to do with demand. THey have extremely tight quality control. They do not spit out a mass amount of units to be distributed. Numbers are still quite small. If there were more dealers, then it would be hard to fill the showroom floors of all.
I doubt even with the ever growing popularity of KTM that they will crank out more units just for sales sake. They take pride in the quality of their product. They sell all that they make with no left overs at the factory.
It also gives them room to make improvements from year to year without loss of profit.
I could go on and on.
But to answer the question about why there are not more KTM dealers? I doubt you will see many more than there are now. Dealers apply to have KTM but as of right now KTM has no desire to add more.

Way more than KTM! Someone mentioned Sales volume.
KTM has a very focused line of machines. Plus the limited number of dealerships, makes them less appealing to newbie riders and people who dont want to work on their own equipment.

Dont take this as a bash, it isnt. KTM builds as good, if not better, as the big 4. It just doesn't have the same size of line as the popular Asian imports, or the dealer support.

I'm waiting to see the KTM Sport Bike. Hopefully at the 'Cycle World Show' in Seattle.

  9. I've seen it. In my driveway.

I think it's a pretty good list of distributors for the popularity of them. And by Popularity, I mean people who actually buy them, showroom posing doesn't bring the dealership any cash.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who want them, but just not that many people buy them. So I believe the amount of dealerships that have them is about right.

Also, take into account, that KTM's main business is Dirt, and not street. So why would you put your main focus of dealerships in a concrete jungle?
