Here's a video of what that looks like from a passenger perspective during a couple mild warm up laps...

Is Saturday the only day the rides can happen? Wife is working Saturday but would like to go for a spin!

How much does it run to get a few laps in as a passenger?

Sorry about that... it's my first time here, and I wasn't exactly sure where to throw the post to hit my target audience.

I used the buckshot approach.

Feel free to merge the threads.

If I knew the driver (and could find a power ranger suit to fit a 50" chest) I would ... it really does sound cool.

I believe we'll do a 'fan experience' thing during lunch which is way-dialed-back pace around the track for two laps for 20 bucks a head. Which we donate to the cornerworkers.

What we're looking for with this post is someone who wants to volunteer for Saturday and Sunday to try out for the hot seat, and if they qualify get trained by professional passengers, run real practice sessions, and a real race on Sunday at race pace.

Not just circulate around the track for the 'fan experience'

We're talking turn the knobs up to 11, possibly go home with a trophy for your trouble.

Who do I talk to when I show up?

What are my chance of getting f'ed up? Only reason I ask is because I have couple of mayor trips coming up, that I need to be able bodied for.

Damn good if something goes wrong.

You're crawling around on the outside of a moving vehicle that's doing triple digit speeds. Just think about that one for a moment.

It pulls two lateral G's, and over two G's under braking, and on average they're putting out near 200 horsepower from modified liter class engines to a 10 inch wide Yokohama slick running 11 pounds of pressure.

It preforms and accelerates unlike anything you've ever been in or on in your life. It will redefine what 'speed' is in your brain.

You're attached to it at any given time by two hands and a foot. If something goes wrong and you go flying and find the cushy softness of a tire wall or K-Rail as your final resting place... just like with all forms of motorcycle racing, you may get seriously injured.

Or you may not. If I had these powers of divine prediction I'd conjure up some winning powerball numbers and buy myself a nice tropical island.

That is what I was thinking.

Where do I sign up?

Oh, I wanted to do TOR for the day as well. If one of you guys allowes me to ride with you, is there a problem with me riding my bike for TOR at lunch?

There is if you crash during TOR and we have to train someone else up during the second 1/2 of the day for Sunday.

Show up Saturday AM, find the sidecars. I think the track goes hot at 9. I'd be there at 8.

All right, I will just show up on Sat. morning and look for the side cars and your outfit and maybe you can point me on to things from there.

I don't have a back protector though, have one I can use?

No, generally I don't keep a spare. And I can't think of anybody from down here in CA that keeps a spare handy. You will have to source one from your local resources, they are mandatory.

Do regulations permit one of these, since my suit has a pocket for it?

I'd let you use mine, but I borrowed it to Neil so he could do a track day this week.

(and my suit too... otherwise I would love to try out for a hack seat.)

Fun watching the sidecars today! Two questions - ok - make that three

1. Did anyone on here ride in the races?
2. Was that one of you that flipped over in turn 5?
3. Was that one of you in the rookie green shirt?

Thanks

Steve

No. I was exhausted and slept through two alarms Sat morning. Got down to PIR at about 11 and watched them buzz around. I am very disappointed in myself...I really wanted to do this. Just hearing those things rip around and me not being on one, made me almost cry.

I just watched the videos. Somehow this seems really fascinating. Drazen, how were you gonna do it w/o practicing or knowing how to beforehand? Seems like these guys do a lot of crazy balancing and you need to know how.

I Ride: because I can't not ride.
Many years ago I was offered an opportunity to fill a seat as "Monkey" at Sears Point - wanted to, but had something else to do that weekend.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda...

Well, nowadays, if I didn't have 2 torn rotator cuffs, and a herniated lumbar disc, and a herniated cervical disc, and was 20-odd years younger, and 40-odd lbs lighter...

Looks hella fun - I really would love to do it if I was realistically physically able.
Dang.

I remember watching the top class GP 2-stroke sleds at the GP's in Europe in the 80's - crazy fast!
I've had a bizarre fascination and fondness for them things ever since.

Training on Saturday and then racing on Sunday. It would be hard to pick up certain points without coaching; like when to lean to which side and general body positionining.

Those things sound wicked to the track.
