| Training Wheels Joined: Aug 2008 From: victoria I Ride: '05 636 Track Hoe | Okay to run a Pirelli Dragon reversed? I have a set of Pirelli Dragon SC Pro's on my 636 and the left side is looking rough. I've got 2.5 track days on them (don't ask about the .5! LOL...) running NESBA "A" group at roughly 1:36-1:38's and all at Pacific - it's the norm for that track I know but my question is - Has anyone run the rear reversed to take advantage of the nearly new right side? Is that okay or no? Opinions please... |

| Forum Cripple | Yes, you should be able to run them backwards. I know the newer Diablo SC's are zero-degree, I am not certain about the Dragons. A Pirelli rider will probably know more ![]() However, the problem with running a flipped tire is that the "off" turns - at PR that's T3 and T6 - become danger zones. If you do flip it, make sure you take it easier through those. |

As for the first couple posters - I am aware of running street tires in reverse and so on but it's a slightly different ballgame with tires that have less tread/slick ratio's and effectively none at the edges. I know some slicks are reversable and my question was directed to EXPERIENCED track riders like Hypnotiq, tophyr, etc... |

And to further prove the point that there is a difference between flipping street and race tires, some of the tire reps PROMOTE flipping them. So please, if you don't know what you're talking about, dont answer the man's question Also, I have a few sets of takeoffs with 10-20 laps on them of supercorsas ![]()

Shame as the right side looks cherry and the left is shredded like every other rear tire looks after a couple track days at Pacific. Could someone please move PIR a little closer to the Canadian border so I could alternate track days and even out tire wear please??? ![]() |

| Training Wheels Joined: Aug 2008 From: victoria I Ride: '05 636 Track Hoe | ![]() I always set them to recommended pressures (cold) according to Rick Salmon and keep tabs on them throughout the day with hot pressures. I just started using tire warmers this year so thats supposed to help with less cold tearing and less cycling. I think the main culprit is stock suspension - I just got it set up from Barry and the first session out afterwords I got collected in an accident and went down myself so I can't say if it was any better or not but hopefully it helps reduce the tire wear and evens things out a little. At my speeds, I'm not too hard on them, especially riding a 600 and being as smooth as possible so perhaps I'm just expecting too much? Whats the norm for a set of new Dragons for track days? 3, 4, 5, 6??? While I'm at it - whats the latest/greatest this season - Dunlops or Michelins? ![]() |

I know a lot of guys (including me) are running Dunlops. They stick like glue and can be run forever. Not to mention they can be flipped too. Yea, they're a little more for a new set...but talk to Barry about takeoffs. I got a set of AMA spec takeoffs (not as good as the 211s) from him at ORP. He said they'd probably be good for the weekend. I've gotten 3.5 trackdays and a race weekend out of them...and if I flip them now I can still get another trackday or two out of them.

| Forum Cripple | ![]() Last year I ran 1:36's at Road Atlanta on the BT-003R, the full-on race tire. In practice before the race, I ran 1:38's on the BT-002RS, the street sport tire. Two seconds off race pace, on a street tire - good stuff. Then, in the beginning of this season, I got 600 laps (7 full race/track days) out of a single front tire and still could run 31's around PR with ease. Best part? They're way cheaper than Dunnie, Michelin or Pirelli. PM Essvar. |

| Forum Cripple | Saved it didn't I ![]() That's one of the things I love about Bridgestone the most. Pretty much every rider will tell you their tire slides predictably, and they probably do, just in different ways. With the Bridgestone, it will slide pretty much linearly with throttle application - at X point, you can feel it getting loose. Open up the throttle a little bit more, and it steps sideways a little bit more. Open it up further, and it steps out further - but it stays at wherever you put it. That's the part I like, it doesn't keep stepping further and further out with constant throttle, it'll step out a certain distance and then stay there. |
