ORP and motards?
Just curious how my DRZ400SM would perform at ORM when mixed up with the 600s and liter bikes. I know a lot depends on the rider, and I don’t want to take the DRZ out to PIR because of that front straight…but what about ORP? Has anyone ran their DRZ or similar motards there? I do not want to kill the 400, but just have some fun….my DRZ is bone stock (except the tires) and maxes out at 85mph....

Comments?

Unfortunately I'm done for the year.
My motor is apart getting a new stroker crank and a ton of top end work. Not going to be done till late Dec I think.
But I'll be over there in the spring for sure.

ORP is perfect for motards (or motard wannabees like my Hyper ). I can't imagine a better track for them.

There are very few straight/resting sections - very busy track. Have you seen some of the helmet/bike cam videos?

As a total tarmac track in the PNW goes, it looks like okay if there's nothing else available that day. Some of the kart tracks are better. Just be aware that the sportbikes can be just as fast, and some MUCH faster, in a lot of the turns at ORP. It's pretty tight, but not everywhere.

I took my WR250X (same general performance as your DRZ) out there and had a complete blast. The "Strait" at ORP is TINY and even the 600s are only going to be going MAYBE 20 mph more than you.
Its an EXTREMELY tight and technical track and a TON of work on a 600.

While the full race built 450 Sumo's are more fun out there the smaller ones can get around plenty fast.

Trust me you will have a blast out there on the DRZ and you will NOT have to worry about being too slow.

We had a group of 5-6 tards out there for the NESBA day earlier this year. Shot some video, but it turned out poorly, otherwise that would give you a good indication. It's not ideal for motards, but it's still a blast on them.

And for the love of god, at least do the 3x3 and a jet kit to your DRZ. It'll at least get into the low-90s.

I ran my 450 XCF out there. Topped out about 110 (should have geared down another couple teeth!).

It was a blast. I would get killed going down the straight, then make it up by braking signfigantly AFTER the last brake marker. Down 1 gear into 1, back up to 5th, down 2 gears for 2, back up to 5th for run towards the farmhouse.

ORP Probably the best "big" track for an sm bike.

Hey Ro this guy was following me for awhile and I was on a 600. He was definitely faster in the corners, and was not holding anyone up. He did move over in the straights and was checking his "6" for faster bikes. You would have no problem with your bike and would really enjoy the track.

That is one fast 450! I had a fun battle with a 450 Husky in my first few sessions, but once I learned the track, my SV1000 left him down the 3 short straights. But I never got out of 4th gear and don't think I ever got much over 115, if at all? It is by far the best big track for motards.

I've never been but would love to go sometime between now and next spring. Would be really cool to figure out how to get a dirt section built out there to make it even more enticing for the SM's.

Yeah, really! I might get some screws loose in my leg due to the thumper vibration as it is still all fresh…Yeah, I get your pun though!
