Is anyone doing the Laguna Seca days with Cascade Track Time?

I'm thinking about going but haven't done any days with CTT and would need my bike transported. Anyone have any relevent experiences or advice they'd like to share?

Kevin

Make sure you have a completely stock exhaust system, head back. You can still get popped for noise even with that setup.

I wish I could go..maybe I can borrow a friends bike. Um...

They're pretty good. I think they're only running two sessions on this trip instead of the standard three. They allow passing inside/outside in either session, with a 6-foot cushion.

I've worked for CTT for 3 years now. VERY good organization to ride with. Tyson puts on a great track day. I believe if you contact them, you can arrange transport down there for your bike/gear as they drive the big truck down for those events.

on the stock exhaust. They WILL ping you for it down there (or just keep the throttle chopped low past the sound-trap).

My understanding is the sound trap is no longer in a fixed location. It moves around the track (prolly using the ambulance access road).

Kevin and I will be attending. Hoping to avoid the sound issue becoming a major bummer. We'll see.

CTT is a great organization. Should be a ton of fun.

I'm going.

CT typically runs 2 - 30 minute sessions. For these away events that typically have low turnout we sometimes just open up the track, especially in the afternoon -- all the track time that you can handle.

If you need transport, call Tyson. He's currently planning on taking the smaller trailer (up to 9 bikes, I think). I'm sure if he got enough takers, he'd use the big trailer.

Yes, but thanks for the refresher. Just come with me Mark!

Thanks to everyone for your replies - seems pretty universally positive. I especially appreciate the heads up on the dB restrictions that I was unaware of. The internet says 92dB but that's not on the official Laguna Seca site. My Termi's put out 102dB so I guess it's time to go back to the street pipes. (Would baffles do the trick you think?)

Sweet! I'm looking forward to this even more now.

What kind of bike are you on? Rumor has it that big twins don't peg the meter like the I-4s. Call Tyson...he mentioned this to me. He has a friend that rides there often on his 1098.

Nope I don't think baffels will do it. I have heard of people failing on 100% stock bikes with stock everything. Best to be stock on the exhaust so you have an excuse at least.

1098R. I'd hate to have to go back to the street pipes because it would mean I'd have to switch out the race ECU and lose traction control.

*EDIT* Talked to Tyson, he says his friend runs his 1098R there frequently with no sound problems on the race pipes. It's like all the stars are aligning for me!

Thanks for the offer buddy...you have no idea how much I'd love to go!

FYI though.. I just made a call to a good friend of mine that lives in Santa Clara..he runs that track on a fairly regular basis.

He says you'll need stock exhaust. The rules used to say 92 db's..no longer. He's seen guys turned away at tech inspection due to aftermarket exhaust..

Do some serious research before you go man!!!

Stock Exhaust Highly Recommended
As others have mentioned, my friend Ace has ridden Laguna a handful or more times this year with both his 1098s, 1098r and 848 race bikes, all with aftermarket exhaust systems. He has never had an issue with sound. I dont think an I4 without the OEM exhaust will pass at all. All of you who are travelling to Laguna with us riding I4 bikes, take the time to pack along your stock exhaust. It doesnt take up that much extra room. Better yet, mount it up in advance so you dont miss out on anything at the track.

BTW, I got a call this week from Ace who is working with WERA to potentially have a WERA National at Laguna in 2010. Its a long shot, but that sure would be cool.

Looking forward to hearing how you guys do. I've only been on the track once and that was for a parade lap. It's unlike anything I've ridden on before though. The whole place just feels so "big time".

Add one more to the roster! I'm heading down for the 3rd. Planning to drive from Portland. If anyone wants to split the cost on a room down there, please let me know.

Now, time to scramble around to find a stock exhaust for my 1st gen sv650.

Sorry BigT, couldn't find anyone up here that is driving down. A person from BC offered me a ride down on the 29th but after they get there they are continuing on to Thunderhill so I wouldn't have a way back and flights are over $300.

You can (usually) camp at Laguna BTW, there are showers near the media center that you can use and sunrises out there are beautiful from up on top of the hills.

With gas prices, you should be able to get down and back for about $100... well, i guess it depends on what you're driving

Weather was great! It sure got cold quickly after about 3:30 though! Slow-siding in the corkscrew - not so fun. Rest of the trip was excellent. I put 366 miles on the bike at Laguna, how cool is that? After the first morning to learn the track etc I was consistently in the mid 1:40s and pulled at least one 1:42. Still got a long ways to go to catch Hayden.

Thanks again Tyson, you and the other Cascade guys were very nice. They also had an AFM racer named Ace wearing an instructor vest - that dude was fast. There were so few people we just ran open sessions - no set times! Awesome days.

Wait, sorry guys, I take that all back, I mean it sucked, you didn't miss anything.
