New CRF250X!!
Well I said I was going to get it the other day, but I held out until today so I could get it a bit cheaper. I just picked up a brand new leftover '07 CRF250x. I'm about to go tool around some Ft. Lewis training area with my son to get use to it. If anyone is goin out anytime please send me a message and I'll be glad to join!

ride that thing like you stole it from the start, tooling and putting around when an engine is brand new is not at all good for a brand new motor.. rings never get seated properly and the motor will never be what it should. just an FYI

Thanks for the heads up. I was out with my boy and I blasted ahead and would blast back. I meant more tool around the training area not so much just puttin the bike because its all double track, military vehicle wide dirt roads with no scenary. No real technical trails.I go out there because he is still learning and its mainly flat with little big rocks and we dont have to worry about other riders like at an ORV park. So I opened it up real nice. Talk about low end torque

Jason hey man whats been going on? Hey just be careful riding on Ft Lewis cause it illegal to do so in the training areas. They actually have patrols out there and you can get a pretty hefty charge if caught.

Nice bike man. I'm not sure on the 250's but I know on the 450X especially the 05-07 models it was reccomended to fill the tranny with a whole quart of oil instead of what the book says due to early tranny prodlems, and make sure the dealer started it and topped off the engine oil after it got into the filter. Sweet ride though, have fun with your boy!

Oh yeah. thanks for the heads up. I've been taking my boy out there for the last few months. Good thing I've never ran into an athority. Guess I'll have to find a new place to teach him then. I hate the ORV Area to tech him, just to many other fuck hats out there to worry about taking him out.

I saw you a like a month ago or so. I was actually up at the station around 1700 and seen you getting on your bike and rolled out.

My roomate is a certified Honda Tech. He said the biggest thing is to tear it down and lube everything right away. So were going to do that tomorrow night. Good looking out.

Congrats, get that thing dirty!

Oh, that article doesn't mention teflon tape under the clutch/MC handlebar mounts, neat little trick to be able to adjust them on the fly and maybe save levers.

Me my friend and his dad got kicked out of the area of the abandoned airstrip south of Ft. Lewis years ago when Scot and I were learning to ride. This was back in 89-90, even then they were not too happy we were out there.

Went out to the ORV Area on Ft. Lewis so it is all lagit to ride. Holy shit its completly different then riding street, everything is backwards. Took some good spills messing around. I ended up crushing the left radiatior into the frame and it started leaking. So I'll have to order one tomorrow. Also going to pull it apart tonight and do all the lubing that is required. Thanks for the info and coments.

Very nice bike, but if you think it has a lot of torque, stay away from a 450! You should also get a set of these when you order that new rad. These are by Devol, but there are several kinds available. They are much cheaper than new radiators!

I have the Devols on my 200 and they are ok. They bend a little easier than I would like. I put the Flatland guards on my Yamaha and they are much sturdier.

yeah my roomate told me about those. When he puts the radiator on order hes gonna get me a set of those coming too. What else would be some good aromor to outfit on this thing. Keeping in mind I do want to do offroad trail riding. When the skills permit that is lol.

The two other "must haves" are going to be barkbusters and a skidplate.

First off congrats on the 250X, you'll love it! I may be a little biased though.

You definitely need to armor up riding around here, as you found out the hard way... doh! Here's what you'll need:

Radiator guards (duh)
Skid plate
Bark busters (Cyrca ProBends with triple clamp mounts are by far the strongest I've found)
Front & rear disc guards

Some other suggestions... I went +2 on the rear sprocket, I think it works a lot better, but YMMV.

The bike runs and works stock, but is quite corked up and kinda sleepy. Open up the airbox, get a good aftermarket pipe & rejet and it will be a LOT snappier and more fun.

Thanks for that article. I pulled it apart last night and gressed all the stuff they recommended and used lock tight on all the bolts on reinstall with the proper torque. Here is a pic of it. What is the teflon tape your talking about? Where do you put it and for what purpose?

You can take teflon tape (used for threaded joints in pipe fittings) and wrap it around the handlebar under your master cylinder and clutch perches. That way in a crash the perch is more likely to spin out of the way then break. This is less of a concern when you run bark busters. I just loosen mine enough so that they'll move with a hard impact. That also makes it so you can adjust them on the trail without tools.

Depending on how bad you wadded your radiator, you might be able to send it to Myler's http://www.motorcycleradiators.com/
For about $100 they were able to straighten both the radiators on my WR and fix the leaks. That's probably a lot cheaper than a new radiator from Honda.

^^awesome. thanks for that info. yeah a new radiator ran me $180 from Honda. After looking at there pics they should be able to repair mine. I'll send them this one and have one on hand incase I bust another before I get the gueards.

I will have my new radiator this afternoon. If anyone is riding sunday or monday let me know, I'll be free both days and wanting to ride.

Hey Jason, here's another tip for you, from recent personal experience. File off the innermost tooth on the rear brake pedal, it can punch through the clutch cover and at best you'll get a puddle of oil on the garage floor when you come back from your ride like I did.

You can also wrap zip ties around the non-serated portion of the platform to prevent the metal-to-metal contact.
