I love my distanza's they are far superior to the Conti SM. They work extremely well in gravel and ok in the mud, just not the clay. Very sticky in the wet too and warm after the first 10 feet. Just don't expect them to last more than about 3k miles.

SVJ you should know, heh. Only like 105 tucked bouncing the rev limiter.

the avons are pretty good, a huge improvement over those pos stocks.. i have not had them on fire roads yet but they work pretty damn well on wet and dry pavement.. very sticky... i briefly had the mich powers on but with that funky sidewall was tough to get a a comfortable pressure and got tired of messing with it.. distanzias are a nice option.

The Distanzias work great on fireroads, and are surprisingly sticky on the street too.

What pressures are you running?

Yeah they are pretty cold blooded, but if you run pressures in the low-20s they actually work fairly well - not great though.

Some of the yellow DRZ's look pretty sweet with just a little bit of the yellow taken out. I agree, the yellow has to change, as its TOO yellow, but there are some options where you can just switch out a few items and be less bright and still have a yellow bike. There are too many black ones out there, so try to keep something alittle different.

I have been way to busy riding it, this bike has me back into riding vs just going through the motions on the R6. I am one very happy camper, lots of questions but will wait until I have you in front of me.

Avon Distanzias v other tires for the street for sm bikes
On my supermotared 2006 XR650L (see profile photo) I ran the Distanzias, then the Distanzia super motars (didn't see much difference, and loved them both for the country roads around here in Leavenworth as well as pavement and highway). Now I have recently put on Pirelli Scorpion Syncs...I _still_ think that I like the Distanzias better...but I am enjoying testing the limitations of the Scorps.

just my 2 cents...

Recently picked this bike up used. Engine is basically stock, for now. Just getting started. One of the first things I did change was dumped the stock Dunlops and got Distanzia's, SM compound. Road the stockers for awhile, green dot in cascades and some high dessert stuff near Coulee City WA. So was able to get a decent comparison and noticed a nice improvement off road with Distanzias. You cant expect significant improvement on dirt (mud and really lose sand are challenging) but I think this tire is a great tire for what I ride. 80% street 20% off road. They rock on the road. Very sticky.

I am installing some more "dirt agressive" tires tonight. Bike's all fixed. Ordered front and rear black KTM plastic but the rear came as the 04, which is different from 05/06. Oh well. Here she is with a black front; I think I like it better orange, or if i leave it black, the upper part needs to be black too. I finally got the bike all back together, and it felt great. Huge props to my father whos THE dirtbike mechanic Heres 2 pics from last night. I got my new KBC "Tornado" lid, and WA state plates too.

My 2006 XR650L supermotar
Black Excel rims, Red Talon hubs, Buchanan spokes, Avon Distanzia sm, T-4 pipe (note: NOT an FMF-which aren't nearly as good, IMHO, of course), Driven fat boy bars, motodeath grips...

I laced the wheels myself, and did all of the install - I like this bike for so many reasons, not the least of which is that its a Honda (reliable and well built), its a 650 (which is like the minimum engine size I feel comfortable with on if I have to go on the freeway), and I like to pick and choose exactly what components go on- more interesting than buying a stock sm - but I'm picky :-)

Mainly this bike is a great canyon carver...as well as a terrific daily rider! I ride it more often than any other of my bikes, simply b/c its so easy...

uhh... gixxertek put on some new rubber roughly 5 days ago. The tires are already 50% gone. Granted they're super soft, but still. 1 week

Yay! I can finally join this thread... here's what I picked up on Saturday:

The bike is stock, with exception of the seat, fender eliminator, and axle sliders. It has under 2500 miles on the ticker. I'm going to pick up a set of tires and a Yoshi RS2 this week, and get it on down to the dyno for a baseline. My sweet deal even came with the JD jets, so I can be set to rock-'n'-roll when the pipe comes in. W00T!
