Got the PM, much appreciated!

I'm tall enough to not have that issue (5'11"), but I'd imagine with SM wheels your bike will sit low enough to touch down pretty easily. Maybe not with both feet but why would you want that?

Good point...I'll wait 'til I get the Marchesinis mounted up before making a decision on the suspension. Mine is going to be ridden mostly on road race tracks, so I don't need the long-travel suspension.

Darned straight! ... I just need to get back to the dyno a time or two more to get everything dialed in...

I think "holy crap this is my second flat-slide and I'm in love!" Seriously, an FCR is a better mod to the DRZ than a new pipe... though the ceramic coated RS2 is excellent.

I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam 175lb. I have an 07 drz sm with the gel seat and I flat foot it, no problem. And I raised the forks up flush to the top triple for preload.

I had a DRZ SM for a couple of years...no problem with the seat height on it. Of course, it was my street bike -- never rode it aggressively. We'll see how the YZ450 goes. Thanks.

This is my second bike. Just wanted something lighter for the tight stuff. And hell its a dirtbike afterall, so gotta keep all the dirt accessories etc so I can have fun in the winter/spring.

Going to bring it to any WMRRA events so that we can play? Maybe an AF trackday?

I'll have pics soon, I just need the front wheel to arrive and to buy a caliper relocation bracket. Maybe some sprockets to mix it up a bit, the 15/49 is really tall yet short, putting me at 108 top speed (by my calculations) but the close ratios in between really confuse me.

It wont go that fast! I read that they were only topping off at about 90, with a 21/19 combo. So probably 85 or less on 17's. Just gotta change the gearing for sure. As for where its ridden who knows! PR would probably be the KTM

I have a WR 5th gear installed so the top ratio is different than yours, plus I have an extra tooth on the front sprocket. There's a guy on the East Coast (Chad Bachene) that runs a 16/36-16/41 combination on his 450. I need to see how the other gears work before I start dropping coin on sprockets.

I'll send you the spreadsheet calculator for the YZ tonight.

I just put a new chain and sproket set on my DRZ last night. I had thought it was stock 15/41 gearing but I also thought it was geared pretty short so I was wanting to get a 16t for it. Turns out it was geared 14/41. Just rode it. What a difference. I have a 41mm FCR, 450 kit, Hotcams, and an MRD pipe on the way. I'm gonna like this!!!

I've heard it's, how shall I say? Loud?
Yea. It's loud. But it is supposed to work pretty well. I bought it with a quiet core also. Like that'll help...

I want to put together a couple of motard rides when the weather gets better. So, I'll bet you'll get to hear it.

Harp, Getting a stepped down seat will help a ton (I'm 6' and use a step seat for sm).

I like a lowered bike, but run all my bikes full height now.

You'll probably get 100-105 mph (in a full tuck), but not much more.

A SM bike has the aerodynamics of a barn door (trimming the tank shrouds to not go beyond the radiator will get you 3-4mph on the top end though).

One thing to plan for on the yz... get a vent can for the crackcase and keep an eye on it. The YZ's have tended to breath oil at high rpm. It's not a problem if you keep any eye on it.

Sounds like you'll have a beast with all those mods Jim, can't wait to see it. You'll have to make some trips down to Mist/Hwy 53 & St Helens with the SM.

One more mod you may want to look into is a larger tank so you don't have to fill up at every gas station. I have a feeling you'll spend a lot of the time at WOT.

You know I'll be down for St Helens and Mist!!!!
I'll see how the tank goes. But I think you're right, it'll happen.

I wish I'd see more sumo bikes over here on the other
I wish I'd see more sumo bikes over here on the otherside of the mountains here...with the exception of a *few pretty much stock DRZs and once in a while a KTM - I never see people with sumo bikes over here. Its a shame! Being from the Bay Area I used to see alot more up on Hwy 9 on a weekend than I see here in 3 months...

So, if you are riding by Leavenworth this summer, please stop by and show me your bikes. Mine is a 2006 XR650L, and its my daily rider. Its got Excel rims (17) , Talon hubs, Avon Distanzias (natch, I ordered two sets last time, so when there was that AVON tire shortage back in October I was smug) Buchanan spokes, 320mm EBC rotor in front, Driven chain and sprocket kit, and a Procircuit T-4 slip on. We do all the lacing and setup here in house - so that was kinda nice.

JetCity - your Red Bull Honda bike made me drool. But, really, everyone's bikes on this thread are so awesome!!

-Lizi Wesson
