Instead of 142 take Canyon - Klickitat Appleton road...it's awesome and only adds maybe 10-15 minutes over taking 142.

Also taking Cook-Underwood road breaks the Hwy 14 monotony. It looks complicated, but you just follow the road and it puts you back on 14.

A few suggestions
Old Hwy 8 - Canyon Rd. - Appleton Klick Hwy (Looks like someone already suggested it)

Maybe hit the Rowena area on the way back

Got a couple of stop suggestions if you weren't already planning them:
Schreiner Farms: Exotic Animals from A to Z - http://www.schreinerfarms.com/
Maryhill Museum - http://www.maryhillmuseum.org/

Both are along Hwy 14. The farm is somewhere between Lyle and Mary Hill on the north side of the road – there’s a good sized sign, which helps since there’s no address and can’t find on the map. I’m sure your wife will really like the museum (it’s really a castle) and there’s some cools stuff for guys in it as well.

I’ve ridden in this are a few times and really like it. Did the Rowena curves the last time I was there. Sweet!!

Like your route from Point A, same one I used from Destination Highways.  Oh another stop idea to sooth your sore butt – a soak at the Carson Mineral Hot Springs. Also from Destination Highways, was going to suggest Cook-Underwood road and Old Hwy 8 but DGA and got that covered. Canyon road looks like it has some awesome twisties, but I really liked 142 since it was along the river – twisty and scenic. Last year my friends and I did both and now I can’t remember which we did first. They didn’t know the route and at the south end (of one of the roads) we looked across the river and saw the other road and said “I hope we get to ride that road too!” and we did.

Love planning routes and really wanted to share something new, but not so much this time. There’s this little bit http://goo.gl/maps/qwhQ maybe for another trip. Don’t want you to miss seeing the giraffes and suits of armor. Enjoy! So wish I was closed, it’s a much longer ride coming from Kirkland!

I Ride: because it makes me happy.
Do the Rowena Loops on your way back.

Jen and I had a blast on Sunday, only a few bicycles and not one car. We made four passes.

I think in order to have enough butt left for Rowena we'll have to cut out the Cougar-Carson beginning loop. Have to ask the wife about that one but it looks hella fun!

Oh, and I think Saturday (weather and ass providing) we're going to go up to Johnston Ridge and have a look around the observatory. Good ride and it's been a while since we've been all the way up there.

The Rowena Loop reminds me of the carousel at The Ridge ....Let's do it and skip Cougar/Carson. We can do CC anytime.

In order to preserve our posteriors, I have shortened the route TO Stonehenge. Unfortunately this results in about 50 miles of slabbing on 14....but I think Rowena on the way home will be worth it. This is the route TO: http://goo.gl/maps/gv6T

Route back is coming shortly.

Route back, little slab, little scenic view, ending with a nice riverside ride ending at SBUX in Vancouver for some much needed caffeine at the end of the day!

Put me down for a maybe. Earlier I offered to take a new 'tard guy out on a couple roads. Let's see if he's up for an all-day run.

In any case, I'll likely be on my two-fiddy.

I Hope you make it. I haven't had a chance to ride with you yet. I can also hear about your AZ trip
