I Ride: V-Star 650 Silverado
MPG on my 650
Ok, help me out here. I bought a new V-star 650. It is supposed to get 49 mpg. I was getting 45 mpg. Every one told me I should get 50+mpg. Now at 533 miles I filled up and it shot up to 65mpg. It is broke in now. I had a new 250 rebel I bought in May, it got 50mpg, and then after 4 fill ups it shot up to 85mpg. It was broke in. In another forum for 650 riders they did not experience the same thing, so they think I am full of shit. I can't explain it. I know what I am doing, as far as the math. last fill up I went 116 miles on 1.8 gallons. Has anyone else experienced these things? Why might I be so damn lucky?

It's probably your style of riding.

There are plenty of variables, like your riding style, and the fact that you can never fill up a tank to the same exact amount every time, and the meters could be slightly off on the pumps at the stations. Maybe they've all got pipes and jet kits (those are carbed, I'm assuming) and you don't? I know that other places in the country also switch from winter gas to summer gas (I think we also do up here) and that will effect mpg, I noticed a 2-3mpg (10-15%) difference in my truck.

Maybe they (and their wives) are all fatties, and you're built like a toothpick?

I've owned two bikes identical but one year apart. One got 50 MPG the other one got 60+. One of my bikes now gets about 48, if I ride fast it gets about 25.

Keep doing what you're doing.

Joe.
