Cali Firefighters check in
Just watching CNN Headline News on the Cali fires and just released that an 18 year old man from Washington State was killed yesterday when a tree fell on him. Just wanted to see if our guys in the Walla Walla area were all accounted for. If anyone has anymore info could you post up.

Be safe out the guys

I don't know if any of you actually found out any more information about this or not... but it wasn't a fun situation. all of california had a mandatory safety stand down because of this incident and another one that happened the next day.

it was two opposite ends of the spectrum.

the kid from washington was out learning to become a faller (cut down trees) and the guy he was working with was experienced, but stuff happens. the faller cut down the tree, but that tree fell into another tree and knocked it down as well. that second tree is what landed on the kid. but the impact isn't what killed him. there was a staub (or broken branch) that punctured his leg and his femoral artery, so he bled to death and there wasn't anything they could do about him.
It was his first day on his first fire.

The second guy was a division supervisor who was about ready to retire. he was in his late forties or early fifties and he went off to inspect a section of the fire and it blew up on him and burned him over. i do not know if he was able to deploy his fire shelter or not.

it can be nasty business out there, but we try to stay as safe as possible.

i am home now. for a week, possibly two. then out for more of the same. thanks for the well-wishes.
